Palm’s next webOS device? Pre Centro?

One of our ninjas just hit us up with the above photo… they said it would be Palm’s next webOS device, the rumored Centro-esque handset. No specs or anything, just a “Fall” release date. Sorry for the blurry and small photo, but it’s legit! What you guys think?

Thanks, Daddy G.!

I was going to say “I think that is a very blurry photo.” but then I thought “ach! why bother”. But then I thought, by saying nothing what am I really saying. So I thought I’d better say something now, so I’ve said this.

I needn’t have bothered, much like this story…

Why would Palm hang the severe baggage of the Centro around the Pre’s neck? Are they truly that dysfunctional?

It’s not a Centro. It just has the form factor of a Centro, so I don’t know why people think it’s a terrible idea. I personally don’t like the Centro, because the keyboard is too small for me but some people do like it. Personally, I think it is an excellent idea. The faster they put out more and more phones running webOS, the faster the developer community develops. If you don’t like the phone, good for you, but the release of this phone just means better things for anybody owning a Pre.

What is the possible excuse for publishing that picture… it carries absolutely no value, and I can’t imagine how it is “legit”. I have taken a lot of bad pictures in my life, but….

Also, backbeat, I think I saw you walking around on your knees at my local apple store trying to suck off any and every employee with the Apple logo on their chest. Good for you man. Good for you.

Wow dude, pretty vicious. I didn’t see anything apple related in his post. In related news, did anyone else hear about the “real Reviewer” program palm is starting up? WTF is that all about? And where is the release date??????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

@Steve (or whatever your name was 10-minutes ago): You’ve got me confused with fanboys of the Apple-persuasion. That is not me, bitch.

It was made perfectly clear in my original post that I was addressing marketing perception, something which scalped your pointy little head. The point being: Why hang an albatross around the neck of this new platform. Centro is/was a loss-leader for Palm whereby Palm could not recoup production costs on it, but were compelled to maintain a market presence due to dying market share, thus resulting in an ‘investment’ in pushing virtually free Centros.

Why the incessant need to find issue where none exists?

Looks like a Treo Pro with a longer screen and smaller keyboard. How small does Palm think they can make these keyboards and still have them be usable? The one on the Treo Pro is barely usable.

I agree with JustPeg–it definitely looks like a mini Blackberry Bold more than anything else. Like Pearl-sized, but with a full QWERTY.

In any case, I don’t think it’s such a bad idea continuing the Centro brand. It’s obviously been a very successful phone, and it’s what kept Palm afloat long enough to release the Pre.

I don’t care for the Centro, either, but some people do. And if it’s a Centro with WebOS, I’m all the more for it!

My name is Steve. Actually your right, it’s Stephen, but I go by Steve for short. I don’t usually post on here, just browse the comments. So you have yet another person that hates you, congrats! I just get sick of your comments on how you shoot down anything Pre related when it hasn’t even been released yet. Also, I don’t know how you can comment on the shape of my head when you don’t know me? And what does the shape of my head have anything to do with this topic? I bet if I had an Apple shirt on, you would like my pointy head.

@Steve who just happens to know everyone’s history, but just “browse(s) the comments”:

Applying any degree of critical thinking to the Pre equates to anti-Pre, and by your confused definition, pro-Apple, even when evidence to support such a contention does not exist. Bra-Vo!

    Seek therapy.

The webOS looks great and it appears, from early reports, that it will be very easy to develop and deploy applications for it. Heck, the more devices out there the better.
