Calgary to be Motorola’s first Android phone, more news on Moto
It looks like our ninja took it personally yesterday when we mentioned how eager we were for more info on Motorola’s Verizon-bound handsets. That said, consider us shut up. He swooped in with a few big updates that will definitely tide us over for a while — some good news and some bad — so let’s get right to it… First and foremost, the Calgary will indeed be Motorola’s first Android-powered handset. Some suspected it when rumors of a QWERTY-sliding Google phone from Moto emerged and it looks like that was a good call. The handset will likely focus on social networking to some extent and we’re pretty confident this could be a winner. The G1 and Magic are a bit, err, ho-hum and Samsung’s I7500 is basically just another full touchscreen phone. Moto could really knock it out of the park by introducing a unique, well-designed Android beast and the Calgary looks to be just that. We’re not yet able to confirm whether or not the Calgary is slated for Q2 as had been rumored regarding Motorola’s first Android offering.
More after the jump.

Now some bad news: The Flash and Inferno, each pictured above, have been canned. While the Inferno wasn’t really shaping up to be much of a stunner, we really wanted to see what Moto had in store for the Flash. The design is fantastic and it could definitely have translated to reality very, very well. Such is life however, and Moto is right to focus on the handsets it determines to have the most potential. Que sera sera.
Last up for the time being are a few tidbits surrounding a new handset in development at Moto — the Rolex. While little is known about it for the time being, our ninja tells us the Rolex is made almost entirely of hardened glass and it will sport the same display as the Aura. Sick. We’re not sure if this will be a mass-production unit or another pricey short run like the Aura but either way, we can’t wait to see it. A quick shot of the Rolex screen while we wait with bated breath for more:

I leaked IRONMAN and the Motorola Rolex. Homo is lying.
9-10 Android phones was annouced by one of the investors in Motorola after a meeting with Motorola. And they aren’t $99, that is the target of future Motorola Android phones, not the ones released this year.
Calgary getting released is great, but I believe it isn’t a Verizon phone (the picture looks like it is actually Rush that Verizon is getting). Oh, and Rush isn’t Android either.
@info, if you know so much than where are the other 7 to 8 phones
Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).
@ RMC Go back to cowtown u redneck etown rocks
is it going to be a smartphone? cuz im not gunna wanna pay the $45 per month that verizon charges
Go Moto.
@ tyler, didn’t I already ask that question of the person that provided this leak?
Best Phone from Motorola, Like G1 Mobile. I like OS android, is very good
Wait a second, ’tis called the calgary and ’twill not sold in canada, why not?
Calgary isn’t just like the renderings, but also is pack with lot’s of innovations….for trainned eye only….
Good. Finally moto+verizon giving us something to cheer about. Maybe they don’t “need”
Is anyone else getting sick of final projects looking nothing like concept photos? Also what gives with the phone being offered only with verizon??? Motorola has always been a prime player with T – mobile(my service) and AT&T. Verizon can go take a nap with LG for all I care!!! AND PUHLEAAAASE keep the laser etched keys! Finally can I please get some support from mobile pone users in saying that LG has the lamest designed phones and that verizons interface sucks!!!
WHY WAS MY POST DELETED????
ohh awaiting moderation I see. sry guys
I’ve been waiting for Verizon to announce an Android phone.
But that thing is heinous. With a keypad that terrible, couldn’t it at least have been less than a half inch thick with sharp edges?
Uck. T-Mobile is calling me away.
i live in calgary
btw u pronounce it calgry
hello guys,
I work for the motorola android dev team, and yes the calgary will be coming to verizon and it will run android. It will be running a custom ui similiar to the krave zn4 but it will have hundreds of widgets made by social networking sites amd thrid party dev teams. i will try to post pics but i will tell u it has a very customizable back and it does have a very similar screen.
where is the camera? does it have video? show me the camera give me the specs and count me in!!
I found a Motorola Calgary on eBay :
http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTOROLA-CALGARY-WINTER-OLYMPIC-SPONSOR-PIN_W0QQitemZ270365884008QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ef30ffe68&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
This device better kick ass and be better than the G phones and the I phones
so if this comes to verizon will it have thats stupid requirement to have that thirty dollor plan like all the blackberrys do because hter are no good phones at verizon that let you not have the extra plan
A very special cellphone – I hope Motorola is brave enough to release it like that!
Can you give us more info please? Will the cpu be more powerfull than a palm pre? Tell me about the ram and the battery life. I want to stay with verison but dont like blackberry and need something more powerfull than Iphone 3gs and MyTouch. The motarola cliq sounds weak so I really hope calgary is a better device than all, it looks much better. please update this page!
IF and i mean a big IF this info is correct, where the hell does this leave the moto sholes release date?
sholes turned into something else a855 is part of its new name sholes was its prototype name. calgary was the same way.
iPone makes you get a data plan also…So why shouldn’t this phone do the same?
