Motorola A4500 approved by FCC; new QWERTY world phone for Verizon
Well, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that Verizon seemingly has yet another new world phone coming its way, this time from Motorola. The bad news is that it’s definitely not one of the sexy new handsets we scooped last year. While we continue to wait (impatiently) for stunners like the Flash and Calgary, the upcoming A4500 (aka, Napoleon) will do little to appease our need for sleek new designs from Moto. It will however, service as a viable option for world travelers looking for a simple QWERTY option from Verizon complete with the ability to roam globally. Reported specs include CDMA, EV-DO, quad-band GSM, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, a fingerprint scanner, a 2-megapixel camera, a memory card slot and of course the QWERTY keyboard. Also, Windows Mobile 6.1 is still the OS of choice of course. It’s not exactly exciting but it’s also not a bad package at the right price, we’d say. Sure, we scooped it to no end way back in July of last year but feel free to hit the jump for a few more shots from the FCC doc anyway.

Yea ir looks like a moto qh9 and BB Bold put together….. No creativity what so ever.
I have a moto Q9 on att and this thing is a beast. I was a bit disappointed to hear they are doing away with the model, but this is a very capable durable phone. If they could put a touch screen on this bad boy it would certainly sweeten the deal. my only gripe with the model i have is the screen size relative to the rest of the phone. hope that was addressed on the 4500
And it has WIFI for those who bash Verizon on wifi.

I have this phone as an engineering sample. It’s a fantastic device – the fingerprint reader works flawlessly for unlocking the phone. I needed a global roaming phone, and hated the saga, so this thing is perfect for me. Works great as a phone, manages calendar/contacts, and syncs with exchange. The keyboard is also the best i’ve used on a phone.
trackball…looks like a button to me

If this was Engadget, one of the editors would probably claim this was a KIRF of a Blackberry and then rant for 8 hours about it.
You people need to relax with this phone looking like a blackberry…it might look like a Bold, which looks like a Q9, which was out way before the Bold.. If you read the info on the FCC site, you will see that it was submitted in October. I seriously doubt this is ever being released.
This phone is never being released. Phonescoop got this information today. Read the editors reply to my post on that news article.
In what way does the Bold looks like the bold? The Bold is rounded while the Q9 is square. I cant even see where the Bold could have copy that design. But those buttons on that Moto above screams, Bold/8900.
I hope this releases. Wifi=I am all over it…assuming Verizon doesnt make you pay for the 30 dollar data plan.
blackberry, blackjack, q9, napoleon, q, q10, q11, q8, epix … dont they all look alike? small screen above a qwert keyboard, 2 soft keys, a couple of nav keys, send, end key.
why do you guys just complain about napoleon looking like the blackberry?
what you may not realise is that certain OS (*cough* android *cough* windows *cough* mobile *cough*) in their own way (through code or through their feature set etc) limits the way phones look.
fwiw, the next few android phones are gonna look like the G1 — a qwerty slider. nobody will make a flip, or a rotator, or a candy bar. mabbe a tablet (OMG, iphone look alike!!! OMG! OMG! wtfbbq?). why? because until cupcake came about, you needed a qwerty keyboard.

one good news and one bad news
good news is this one is the awesome phone after q series wifi, bt, biometrics, 3.2 landscape display, agps, sdhc and if you look at the back of this kiddo you get to know size of the battery and I dont think this one is the iphone killer but it would have done well with the same segment phones……. if (here come the bad part….) and only if it come out to the market …
love this phone have 2 of them one with 3.0h/w same as this one and other with 3.2.1 latest h/w both works well
q11 Napoleon is a good phone!!
The development group responsible for developing this handset was laid off not long after the documents were sent to the FCC. Fortunately, the engineering manager (and possibly others) filled vacancies at Verizon.
