T-Mobile UK introduces a “Pay Once” plan for the BlackBerry 8110

There’s some pretty interesting news on the BlackBerry Front out of the UK this morning as T-Mobile has unveiled a “Pay Once” system to entice BlackBerry newcomers. Evidently T-Mobile’s BlackBerry in a Box offering, the Pay Once system is comprised of a one time fee of £180 ($262) that nets users not only a brand new Pearl 8110 but also unlimited email and and web for an entire year. Now as with all good things in life, there are some restrictions involved with this plan — you’re on your own for minutes and texts which must be done via the ol’ pay-as-you-go method. Still, it’s not a bad offering at all for those who type a lot more than they talk. For those interested in the Pay Once deal but completely uninterested in the SureType 8110, a T-Mobile UK spokesperson did hint that this offer could be extended to other BlackBerry handsets provided that the system is a success.

This is exactly what Peek should be doing.

That’s just a bit over $20 per month for unlimited data & email on prepaid. I wish we could have this kind of plan in the US.

So you could just use Skype and not need any minutes and basically not have any monthly payments, since most nice new phones go for over $200 anyways?

They should have provided this on all Blackberry devices initially and than maybe provide it on other data and email hugging devices. Overall, not a bad idea and would be great to see something like this on state side…yeah, right, like that’s going to happen.

Yeah…only problem is that since the Pearl SUCKS…this program might not be a success…should have piloted it with the curve…

they probably WON’T extend it for other models since those are more then likely to end up in hands of business people wich will pay the regular price anyway. this is “catered” to 16 year olds.

Peek did/does, but not on a permanent basis. I was able to buy a Peek device and UNLIMITED LIFETIME SERVICE for $300 during a sales event. Caveat: it is limited to the lifetime of that specific device (i assume that if it breaks during the one year warranty period and is replaced, that the replacement will assume the warranty). Not a bad deal, but, I’d rather have something similar on a Blackberry.

^^ I agree this is something that should be available here in the states….and as for the 8130 why the Pearl? I always wince when I see people using them because they are “so” old….at least they should offer the flip, hell even the sidekick?

Initially I was excited about this news yesterday….because it was vague and gave them impression that it could be the 9630 coming to T-Mobile….sigh….

Hey Pink we need a 3G berry over here!

    Most carrie
rs are giving away the Pearl for free, so to pay $262 for a device that is usually free is retarded. It comes out to $21.83 a month for data only… With my employee discount, I’m only paying $20 a month for my Curve’s data plan…

I would like to add this would be nice for those companies that give their employees Blackberrys with no voice calling, so they can only use email and web…

So this is what all of the hype about the TMO Rim launch meeting was about?

    @ boogereater:

Not everyone has company discount and $20/month for BB data/email only (no voice plan required) is unheard of in the States. T-Mobile has the cheapest BB data plan ($25 for unlimited data + 400 msgs.) but it requires a voice plan of $30 minimum.

Yes, I think that they should expand this offer to other BlackBerry handsets as the Pearl 8110 isn’t my most favoured BlackBerry out there.

How do we get this kind of service on the US side of the pond?
We need to get together and rally for features loke this. I would pay $300 a year for unlimited email and web
