Hands on with the new T-Mobile Sidekick LX

Last night T-Mobile held a private launch event for the upcoming Sidekick LX and your pals at BGR just couldn’t stay away. After all, T-Mobile most definitely knows how to throw a party. Amidst a packed house, terrific food and drinks, a handful of arcade games and a great soundtrack, the new Sidekick LX emerged and we got to enjoy some solid face time with the orchid-colored messaging machine. First things first — the display… is… ridiculous. You can stare at “854×480 resolution” on the spec sheet all you want but until you hold it in your hand you really can’t appreciate just how crystal clear and vivid the F-WVGA display on this bad boy is. Once you manage to avert your focus from the screen, you can move on to what is undoubtedly the most solid Sidekick built to date. Danger/Microsoft and Sharp did a fantastic job on the new LX; it’s slim and sleek, the rubberized feel is perfect and the keyboard is big and inviting. But we don’t want to get too deep into it right now — you know a full and thorough review is on its way. So without further ado, click through to enjoy some hands on pics of the unit complete with a first look into the LX’s social networking integration (Twitter, Facebook and MySpace) and a little taste of AIM image transfer.

Coming from a person that uses both a sidekick and blackberry (work phone) daily. I can honestly say the sidekick trumps the blackberry in everything other then emailing. Keyboard is better, aim client is way better. Sidekicks are just more comfortable.. But like the poster above said. Use whatever works for you.

I have a sidekick, and im not a huge fan at all. But I do have to say the keyboard is amazing. Its the most useable one I have ever used on a phone. But I hate using it to dial a number or try to txt one handed. If they would add touchscreen for t9 txting and normal number input for calls it would be a perfectly usable phone.

why argue over phones? If you like sidekicks, get a sidekick. If you like iphones..then..wait for it..get a iphone. Why have flame wars over this phone sucks at this or this phone sucks at that? I agree with the people that say sidekicks are awesome at messaging, and no I haven’t had a blackberry, and that is why I’m not going to critize it because I don’t know if it’s good or bad, and personally, I don’t care to find out because they just don’t appeal to me. I have a g1 now, and I love it but the email and Im suck. So I’m going to wait for the new 1.5 firmware, and if i don’t like it, i will buy the lx 09. And i have seen MANY “adults” with this phone too. I still don’t see how age contributes to which phone you should or should not have.

Personally this looks good. I had a Sidekick, but left because of the lack of flexibility.

I moved to an iPhone and other than some really sweet apps, the phone sucks. Call quality is average, the onscreen keyboard is garbage, and battery lasts a day (so did the Sidekick so that isn’t really a major dig).

The apps I can load into my iTouch which I just bought and I really miss the sweet keyboard on the Sidekick. that and the multitasking through AIM and being able to surf the web at the same time.

The Blackberry is nice for e-mail, but the overall menu system is clunky. Always has been. The Sidekick is streamlined and since they have added in Twitter (my new obsession) and GPS, I don’t see the need for extra apps since everything else is integrated.

    End Rant.

The new sk is fking awesome. I had the previous lx and traded it in for a g1. Personally wouldn’t go back but because over the past year grew out of all the constant use of aim & social network apps. And love the android os more than the iphones. (Every time I use some ones iphone they have 20 gagillion pages of games and I can never find anything on it)

Well, personally I really like the sidekick. I own the 08 and it is great. Love the AIM and emailing. The keyboard is awesome!!!! My boyfriend has the G1 and personally its cool and wh@tt not but to me its just another phone that is in competition with the iphone. Sidekick is like its own “thing” its fun to work with and its pretty good, and like it or not there is no other phone like it! Its no imitation or like a better outcome of another phone, its simply SIDEKICK! But then again, I agree with the comment that was said b4 use whatever best fits ur needs! :-)
