AT&T announces solid first quarter; impressive wireless and TV performance

AT&T released its financials for the first quarter this morning and despite just missing Wall Street’s $31.08 billion revenue projection, the company kicked off 2009 with a very solid quarter. Company-wide revenue came in at $30.57 billion and stand outs were certainly wireless and U-Verse performance. AT&T Mobility added 1.2 million net wireless subscribers in Q1 2009, 875,000 of which were postpaid customers — up 24.1 percent YoY. AT&T also activated 1.6 million iPhones in the quarter. Wireless data revenue climbed 38.6 percent to $3.2 billion and operating income margin grew 26 percent YoY. On the wired side of things AT&T added 284,000 net U-Verse TV subscribers, which almost doubles its Q1 2008 growth and brings total subs to 1.3 million. It also reported a 471,000 net increase in wired and wireless broadband subscribers bringing the total to 16.7 million.

Easy to do when you cut your employee’s commissions by about 50 percent.

I’m sure that when AT&T upgrades their network for the new iphone, things will be flawless like they are now. Uh huh. Can you hear me now? Oh you can’t? Call dropped.

Now fix your 3G data network in NYC, please! It takes me forever just to load pages in the Safari browser in Manhattan. UGH!

Easy to do when AT&T makes me pay $30 for an SMS plan that costs them nothing.

You all won’t agree, but I’ll chime in with:

    -Superior Customer Service
    -Excellent 3G and EDGE data
-No calls dropped, I mean never

Just my 2 cents (or 3).

    1. The 3G network SUCKS ASS

    2. T-Mobile has better EDGE coverage and faster EDGE speed then AT&T (230kbps compared to 180kbps on AT&T)

    3. Customer Service is nice, but they are complete dicks when you want to cancel and charge you ETF’s when you move out of the coverage area.

    4. FUCK YOU AT&T

    I’m confused…

“AT&T Mobility added 1.2 million net wireless subscribers in Q1 2009. AT&T also activated 1.6 million iPhones in the quarter.”

They activated 1.6 mil Iphones but netted only 1.2 mil adds. Does this mean 400,000 iphones were deactivated?

what that really means is that their “lord and savior” i-phone is the only thing that keeps em going, why is that a surprise? the network that drops the most calls! and dont forget the $80.00 a month for this service, no wonder they have cash, lets see if they can sustain this without the i-mania.

There are other customers other than New customers to account for. I’m sure that number is including existing customers that are upgrading to iPhone.

at&t made 12.9 billion net profit last year. they want to take away retirees benefits that they worked hard for (20+ YEARS.) why would such a highly profitably fortune 50 (not top 500 but top 50) company do this to their loyal employees? sounds un american to me. sounds like another example of corporate greed. at&t needs to keep middle class jobs not sell out.
