T-Mobile Sidekick LX announced, hitting shelves May 13th

Not that big of a secret but finally made official at the stroke of midnight, T-Mobile’s Sidekick line-up finally gets a much needed refresh. It’s been covered a bunch before but here are the major selling points (or just random lines of text you can ignore):

  • A stunning 3.2″ 854×480 resolution Sharp F-WVGA screen
  • Integrated Facebook MySpace and Twitter (finally!)
  • GPS support! Live Search is now GPS-powered, too
  • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with improved video capabilities
  • Microsoft Exchange support
  • T-Mobile 3G/HSDPA
  • Other really cool stuff you don’t know about

The new Sidekick LX will go on sale May 13th nationwide for $199 on a two year agreement. There are two color choices, the first being carbon and second is orchid which is after the break! Anyone interested?

@Will..its old news..but seriously..how many handsets do you see with Wimax/4G? This is the standard right now for radios.

Ive been scouring the internets…. I have yet to find/confirm if the SK is going to come to the UK… I am crossing my fingers

I have to agree with Steve-O and everyone who says this is an actual upgrade. I have had the SideKick Color, 2 and 3 and now I will finally get to own an LX. I passed on the original LX, ID, Slide and 2008. I’m gonna get the Carbon color SK when I upgrade.

I just gave up my BlackBerry Pearl 8120 to get access to a full QWERTY keyboard, better signal, and less freezing on my 2 year old SideKick 3. Now I will be VERY happy to get access to FaceBook and Twitter again, along with MySpace. Also, the improved memory, web browsing, GPS and other improvements have me saving my money for the upgrade. Can anyone tell me if this LX will charge by USB like the original LX did?

I had been searching for a reason to stay with TMobile and now I have it. I had been debating between the SK 2008 (T-Mo), iPhone (AT&T), Pantech Matrix Pro (AT&T), Pantech Duo (AT&T), Treo Pro (Sprint), BlackBerry 8220 Flip and the BlackBerry Curve (Javelin) 8900 (both T-Mo).

Oh come on! Some of you need to give it a rest. If you don’t want it, don’t get it. Whether you choose to accept it or not it’s a step up from the previous models. In my opinion, its a pretty solid effort. People are gonna eat this up, period. Including me. Apple products are OVERRATED & not for EVERYONE.

OMG-THANK YOU!!! Apple products are everywhere. Everybody at least one Apple product. I have an ipod shuffle that my cousin gave me for XMas, and it sits inside my nightstand very nicely. It’s only been used about twice.
Apple use to pride themselves on being the underdog, the product that only the “cool” people got. Now they’re lemmings.

I’m so over touch screens right now. They aren’t as cool as you think they are. I’m ready to just give mine up and go back to a regular old cellphone, no fancy features.
    JEEESH.

Okay, so it looks like I left my Sidekick LX to get a G1 only to find out my previous LX is getting an upgrade. As I type this comment, I reminisce of the glorious keyboard my LX has over my G1. Unfortunately, the reminscing ends there. My G1 upgrades everyday in the form of new apps. Thee Sidekick does not … Looks nice though and will recommend to anyone who does not have an Android phone or Blackberry, or wants to live the teen life. I’m gettin too old now, lol :-)

Ok, enough with all of you guys complaining that this isnt an improvement from one sidekick to the next. You expect them to make dramatic changes every six months when they produce a sidekick? oh, and this is a pretty large improvement on my account, due to the fact that this is my first sidekick, coming from a flip phone..and i am getting this phone becuase it is a bang for my buck, i cant afford the data plan for the g1 or a blackberry, and this has a better keyboard than previously named. If this was a phone specificly for children, why would they (danger) even consider putting mircosoft office on the device??

Well I dunno about anyone else lol but I am getting this sidekick. I have a Sidekick Slide and we all know how that one is…My Slide is actually okay but this would be a great upgrade for me. It is nowhere near time for my contract to end but I am still going to get this new sidekick LX…in my case, it is a major upgrade from the slide!

I had a Sidekick LX previously that I really liked but then moved to the Curve 8320, which I also really like. I am 39 years old and work at a major tech company. The reason I gave up my Sidekick was because there was no Exchange support. Since MS bought out Danger, the Sidekick will how have Exchange support so I am good to go the get my work email.

This looks like a great phone for young and old. C’mon, phones need to be fun and people use what they like. I am definitely getting this pretty piece of machinery.

    da nizzle says:

True, it doesn’t look like much of an upgrade, but under the hood it is.

They have finally upgraded this to make it the true “social” device it was back in the days of the first 2 sidekicks. The onboard support for mySpace, facebook, and twitter are big in their target community. Same with the youTube and the upgraded camera.

I used to have a Sidekick 08 then an LX. I loved the keyboard and the interface (it was simple and clean) but really hated everything else. It had a terrible camera, slow internet, and the nickle and dime approach to software and ringtones.

These all appear to have rectified with this release. 3.2 camera, 3G (I live in an area that has it), and finally free ringtones along with the integrated social apps make this an appealing outing from Sharp (who makes the hardware) and Danger/MS (who makes the software). Not to mention the Exchange support.

I currently have an iPhone with the old 19.99 sidekick unlimited service attached to it and really hate the onscreen keyboard for everything. I am 27 and use my phone for everything (e-mail, text, internet, etc…).

This seems to be a legitimate upgrade. People overall are just bitter since the last several devices (slide, LX, 08) have not really been upgrades at all.

I will definately be checking this out in May. Hopefully the battery has improved.

Can’t wait for this phone to hit the streets. I am a grown woman and excited lol. Even more for the new features and continued data plan that will allow me to type to my heart’s content with out being charged. Bravo.

    Cloke says:

Glad to hear at least some positive comments about this phone. Personally I had been on the fence between this and the G1. I had the closed-platform of Danger OS but I love how efficient and user-friendly it is. It’s quick, easy to navigate, and lets your maneuver between multiple tasks in an instant. The keyboards also a huge plus, I cannot get used to touchscreen keyboards — it just isn’t the same

There are some downsides with this Sidekick sadly; mostly the same 100/30 SMS storage limits and the meager 6MB of email storage. I think in this day and age of the amounts of texts we send and the sizes of email, these should have been increased.

Other than that I think this is a great phone with a cheap plan, especially for previous SK users. $20 for unlimited SMS/MMS/Net on 3G? Sounds good to me!
