T-Mobile Sidekick LX announced, hitting shelves May 13th

Not that big of a secret but finally made official at the stroke of midnight, T-Mobile’s Sidekick line-up finally gets a much needed refresh. It’s been covered a bunch before but here are the major selling points (or just random lines of text you can ignore):

  • A stunning 3.2″ 854×480 resolution Sharp F-WVGA screen
  • Integrated Facebook MySpace and Twitter (finally!)
  • GPS support! Live Search is now GPS-powered, too
  • 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with improved video capabilities
  • Microsoft Exchange support
  • T-Mobile 3G/HSDPA
  • Other really cool stuff you don’t know about

The new Sidekick LX will go on sale May 13th nationwide for $199 on a two year agreement. There are two color choices, the first being carbon and second is orchid which is after the break! Anyone interested?

Jebus, that screen is gonna blow my mind, to imagine my slide is only 320×240… and about an inch smaller. And twitter support!

    JIZZ IN MY PANTZ!

BTW, glad to see sharp flaunting their branding.

Hi! Im the Sidekick LX – we met last year, I lost some weight and got a bit thinner! What you dont know is, Im exactly the same, but now I have more speed…Speaking of speed, I need some more “speed”, or something else….

Basically this is the same fricken thing, just with a GPS and 3G chip in it. *YAWNS*

Not sure I could ever go back to a Sidekick, though I do miss the dedicated “@” key…

The real question is: do Sidekicks still rely on pulling all data down over the network on a battery pull, power drain or reset?

Sidekick is made Danger not Sharp. Interesting note-Danger was purchased early last year and is now a subsidiary of Microsoft.

@GPost – Isnt it amazing that people will buy something thats EXACTLY the same as the one before it?

Im guilty of wanting the Niagra, but at least that has CDMA/GSM and a better keyboard, and newer OS… Sidekick is the LX, just with a few programs that could be on the old one and a 3G chip… hmmm, what value?

I thought for sure this would have a touch screen on a screen of that size in this day and age. Since it doesn’t, or have OLED, it warrents the comment IPHONE WINS! Sorry I’m drunk.

SAME THING??? Sorry but there are significant improvements
    1) Look at that screen, one of the best in the market.
    2) Much better camera at 3.2mp
    3) 3G baby

These updates are too little too late. I went from the Sidekick 3 to the G1 because I was tired of not being able to access advanced Web apps, e.g. YouTube. Each Hiptop iteration seems to only ever improve in limited quantities and in very specific areas, and I suspect this is intentional as it is mainly a teen-targeted phone and T-Mo want to cash in on upgrade-obsessiveness (along with ringtones and wallpaper).

Although I am interested in what the Exchange support means for the future of Intellisync.

I always keep hoping that the sidekick will get better, but since giving up my sidekick II years ago, I haven’t looked back. But if I had a choice between my old sidekick and my T-mobile G1, I think I’d go back to the sidekick.
All that’s being featured about the new SK isn’t all that fascinating though, so I’ll wait for the HTC Touch Pro2 to hit the market.

Even though this Sidekick is no Blackberry or Iphone……it actually is a upgrade. For example, it FINALLY allows audio & video streaming (meaning free ringtones & the option to download things off the internet). Apps like Myspace, Facebook & Twitter are now free. So as this may seem like the EXACT same phone, it is a MAJOR overhaul for the Sidekick line (which means the other Sidekicks are wayyy behind. Lol.). I didn’t think the phone would have this many new features, but it surprised me….so before you type please make sure you know what you’re talking about….for future references guys. Enjoy whatever device you have. As the gryphon from pbd would say….Cheers. Lol.

by the way, I did a search and I found this. Doesn’t say anything about wifi, but if it does have it, then I may actually consider it. I like the thinner design.

Not everyone wants a touchscreen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like having a physical keyboard..and one that isnt cramped… I like the wide keyboard much like the Nokia N97 and the Sidekick.. The EnV would have been good if it werent VZW…. I am hoping we get this in the UK. I would love to go back to a sidekick

This seems like a pretty significant upgrade to me. I owned Sidekicks for years and really loved them, but for a while they started to lag behind in features. This looks to me like they’re catching up. I’m not giving up my iPhone, but for messaging your buds, the Sidekick is the best phone out there, with a great keyboard and solid multitasking. And not every phone needs a touchscreen.
