New Swiveling Nokia hitting Verizon Wireless?

If this wasn’t from one of our normal ninjas we probably wouldn’t publish it, but since it is, here we go… We’ve been told that there’s a “swiveling E71-type handset” that’s going to be launched on Verizon around the July/August time-frame. Yes, a swiveling QWERTY Nokia phone. Before you get too excited, we’ve been informed the OS it will be running will be S40 and not S60. Major buzzkill, huh? The image above is a mockup our guy sent us based on first hand impressions.

Thanks, Daddy G.!

I have to agree with LJ, VZW sucks. Nothing like being tied down to the most expensive carrier with the most handicapped phones. VZW is for those that like their carrier to think for them. I smile as I type this on my UNLOCKED 5800 XM. CDMA = Cant Do Mf Anything (with VZW)

GSM is the more widly used network tech.because of this it is a bigger manufatures market oo it takes a year to 2 years for the CDMA equivalent to be designed an manufactured.

alsoa HSDPA is 3.5 g an is widly ude in eroupe where as ev-do revA and be ar 2.5 g

UMTS wimax is 4 g along with LTE which will use simacrad provisioning. Voda phone has been wanting he big red v to use lte for a long time.
it just limits their market share staying in the CDMA realm.
also ATT took bailout money form the FEDGOV.

I also don’t like them either way do to the fact that both of em help the feds spy on you domesticicly without a warrent. listen in on your calls track you data peek at your account.

Don’t be so paranoid of goverment, theyr ppl like you and me who thrive to keep the place safe for cryin out loud, what’s the matter, got shit on your head? Only national security issues gets attention. The IRS has no window to that info. So just stop it.

Yeah, I don’t have the time or patience to read all these random comments but im just gonna say in regards to Verizon having the best customer service. Tmobile wants to say with its 2 consecutive best customer service trophies.

In regards to the phone, I will admit it looks kinda weird and ugly, but there’s something about it I find interesting. I guess its the fact you don’t see many phones like this that make it seem somewhat ‘cool’. But I did notice it looks like this one phone from Sprint. This girl in my class had it, it had a full keyboard but it was a flip phone. Really square, purple/black and resembled the pic above. It honestly didn’t look that bad. I wanna say it was LG but I doubt that. Maybe someone familiar with their phones can say which phone it was.

    @ attfw

Tell me why you think we cost more? Our plans cost the same as att dumb ass. We have bette texting plans, and our 39.99 plan come with unlimited nights and weekends unlike the att plan which does not. Tell me smart one, why are you so dumb? We can use Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, ect. Like att. The only diffrence I see is Verizon has a much larger 3G network that covers 98% of the US and the largest native coverage. We have world phones and a network with the fewest droped calls, and Americas mor reliable network. Not att. I think attfw is LJ.

Evdorva isis 2.5 g lol 2.6 at best trust me i read a lot on wireless technology inducing some college papers. Before and after takes verizon DOSE cost more than att sprint an tmobile. they are the costliest carier. I know this becuse i helped a construction company through a bidding process. or if you prefer the other term cost benefit analysis. that the particular or ]\der i gave you from most expesive to least expensive. and frankly verizon att an sprint have 5 giG data caps.

also the FEDGOV dosn’t need you to be talking to someone in a cave in Pakistan to need reason to tap you they can do it anyway anytime for any reason an no warrent. Wake up koolaid drinkers

Yes you guessed it. LG is the brand and its the sprint LG lotus.
The “trophies” issue is not so complicated, while. I’m not sure which trophy you are referring to,(JD Power, consumer reports) it is known that after years of consecutive trophies for big red, TMO “edged” verizon. That means both are very good. My point is ATT never made the list, maybe way back in the cingular days of 2000 as Latinjersey would like to remind you all

@ VZW, go back to your job at the mall kiosk. I had VZW and went to at&t. My locked VZW phone is now holding down a shelf. Same costs eh?
Tethered Modem: at&t = free, VZW = lawl
GPS (w/Google Maps Location): at&T = free, VZW = rofl
Contract (my favorite): at&t = MTM with brand new unlocked phone of my choice, anytime I want, VZW = New Every 2!…err nope my bad, they changed that, good luck
Try doing your homework B4 opening mouth. At least you can take solace knowing that MetroPCS is hiring due to the exodus of VZW customers.

I’m Back! Okay so lets end this once and for all. Richie & joecurve here are some facts for you. First yes VZW has more 3G coverage in the US because EV-DO has been around in the US much longer. UMTS is just really beginning here (ask Tmobile) and is a much much more advanced network (ask Japan, Korea, etc.) You wanna brag about VZW rolling out LTE in 2010, dudes if you had any wireless education you would know that LTE is built on the technical
foundations of GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and now HSPA (all which AT&T already use). So when youre browsing through your “Get it Later” app on your VZW device AT&T was doing Voice/Data simultaneously on its UMTS and laying the ground work for LTE.

    Latinjersey says:

There’s a reason VZW is going to LTE next year, it’s because the current network EV-DO is old and at its capacity. But here’s the real story 4th qtr 2008 (even with some lawsuits, dropped call issues) VZW got its red booty kicked by AT&T. Even though VZW launched its biggest device ever “the Storm” big blue still added 1 million more customers than you. So to sum up and end my battle here AT&T best Data Devices, Best roaming capabilities, most advanced Network including WIFI, most advanced services (Video share, HBO mobile…) and most advanced website check 4 ur self att.com/tutorials. wow… people really get personal with their carriers.
i don’t get it… all carriers have their strengths and weaknesses. i think it’s all just a matter of preference.
i personally like the flexibility of gsm, because it allows you to take your sim card out and borrow a phone if, for example, you run out of battery and need to use your phone. or something.
i don’t do any work on my phone, so i don’t really need the speeds that you guys are referring to here. in fact, i’m more of a more-bang-for-your-buck kinda gal, so i’m using the 5.99 tmobile baby internet plan on my unlocked device, which allows me to have unlimited data (yes that means tethering too). but my 3g device doesn’t work on tmobile’s 3g bands. that’s the price i pay for being cheap and not wanting to pay more for data and phone. (plus, i’ve become pretty accustomed to tmobile’s customer service. not sure if i’d want to give that up to pay more on at&t, just to get 3g – besides, i’d have to sign a dreaded 2-yr contract haha)
that said, verizon has always meant reliability in my mind. i can’t count how many times i’ve been out of coverage and my friends with verizon have had coverage. (granted, tmobile has crappy coverage – again, a price i pay for being cheap)

my point is, every carrier has its pros and cons, and i think it’s important for you guys to recognize that. in the end, it all comes down to preference.

If your ‘that’ informed would you kindly fill me in on why the “bold” gives the ability to do voice/data simultaneously? Is it UMTS/GSM or just the devicecapability?
    Thanks in advance

“AT&T best Data Devices, Best roaming capabilities, most advanced Network”
REPEAT IT TO YOURSELF UNTIL YOU BELIEVE IT. YOU WON BY VIRTUE OF REPEATING IT!
As a bystander here watching the “mother of all wars”. I can only conclude that latinjersy keeps repeating sentences (humourus nonetheless) “the best/nice summer w perants network, etc) but never took his time to have a pointed answer to ‘joecurves’ basic argument, that ATT uses 2G in most of the US while the CDMA veriant of 3G (rev A) is availeble for years now in 90-95 % of the US. Yes we can argue about services like video share, HBO mobile, but that’s APPS, latinjersey’s original (misleading) attack was on service, reliability etc. Richie/curve have handily won the argument till jersy-boy started with video share N stuff like that in my opinion
BTW @ joecurve, nice humor too

Thanks in advance?!? Is that really joecurve? As far as the Bold, its a combo of device OS and network when it comes to voice/data simultaneously. The UMTS network can handle it as long as device can perform it.
Bold happens to do it well because it has one of the fastest processors 624mhz.

    Yes it really me!!
Why are you surprised? just because we can have a heated argument (in this case you ignited it by flat out dismissal of facts) dosent mean we can get along in the spirit of love for technology and couriosity for specs, and “how to’s” in these revoloutionary times.
So your answer to this is probebly the NIAGARA will have the capebility. Since its going to sport (according to earlier reports) a 624 mhz. Thanks again. You won.

You are a load of shit. How dumb are you? We have unlocked GPS dumb ass. I hate stupid people like you. You need to do your home work. AT&T does not have free tethering dumb ass. And We still have New Every Two ass wipe. I dont see AT&T giving that to any of there customers. How dumb are you? you must be some little 14 year old kid who thinks he knows everything. Go away little boy, didn’t your mother ever tell you not to play with fire? Well you just played with fire and I burnt your ass up. Your just sad you have one of the worst wireless entworks in the US. And MTM? Verizon has the largest mobile to mobile calling network in the US with close to 84 million customers.

Your an idiot also! Verizon has the best rating from 07, 08, and now it will be 09. AT&T had the worse. How dumb are you? Go away little boy. Grow up you ass. Verizon can upgrade its network to Rev C if it wanted to, but will go to LTE insted and will be better in coverage than AT&Ts shit. Verizon is going to shoot your little AT&T down and AT&T will end up like Sprint.

And by the way, AT&T is not the best data network, Verizon has the best data coverage world wide! They were givin the award at the end of 08 by business traveler magazine. Not AT&T =D

I have worked with this device on testing BREW apps. I usually reject cell-phones on being too expensive for the value added, nevertheless this one might make me change my mind.
The qwerty is very well situated with respect to the sliding part.
The D-pad, although it could have used a bit more of design effort, is “fiable”. The whole that you see in the skin sketch is really useful to lock safe the phone in your pocket/bag – I really love that.
The display is ok in terms of colour depth and resolution, just the standard.
All in all, holding this phone in one’s hand and buttoning on it is an unexpectedly pleasant experience.
