Rumor alert: Sony Ericsson Idou to go on sale in October?
We’re sure you hate it every time tech bloggers say “take this with a grain of salt,” but you’re just going to have to take this with a grain of salt. According to the folks over a mobile.se, a German PR rep for Sony Ericsson has gone on the record to state that the Idou — a Symbian-powered device with a 3.5″ touchscreen, monstrous 12 megapixel camera and GPS — is slated to commence retail sales in October with November being the fall-back date. When asked for comments, Gustaf Brusewitz of Sony Ericsson Sweden would only reconfirm the companies previous commitment to ship the Idou “sometime in the second half of the year,” something that we hope means that the Idou will go on sale well before Christmas to help the struggling Japanse/Swedish owned company get back on its feet. Besides, wouldn’t it be nice to have a 12 megapixel camera phone in your pocket on Halloween to document your best friend almost blowing his hand off with an M-80? Yeah, that’d be so sweet.

hey this is my first comment i have made on my own here,read everyday for about 2 years + though.. but i gotta say MICHAEL… if i had a 12 MEG Pix Camera phone on Halloween dude,.. i wouldnt be thinkin about pics of my buddy and an M-80… maybe thinkin about all the girls (who look forward to it all year long) dressed in as little clothing as possible! lol halloween is sick for that reason alone.

I predict more delays and another fail as mentioned with reference to the x1. More proprietary connector nonsense and possibly 6-9 month before we can fork over many hundreds of dollars for something that might not see a firmware update for another year. I have hope… Sigh.

Agreed on the X1 front Anon, they really botched the release. I was finally able to walk in and see an X1a in SonyStyle in Feb (when the official release date was way back in Oct.). Even now you can’t find them in Best Buys regardless of the fact that they are supposed to be there. Furthermore, there was never an X1a in black released. And of course the X1i was a month late in its availability. Paired to all that, the phone is ridiculously expensive…sigh.

they mentioned 1700 on spec, and removed later, this is a grand betrayal towards T-Mobile customers, that badly hurt their business

The xperia was a nice phone. I had that for a month (november) but could not shake off a bad feelung i had for the phone. Sorry to say i returned it.
Today i am happy i did because its a shame that sony dropped the ball several times on the xperia as for the idou im staying away. So far they promised so much for the xperia but nothing has really occurred. Approach @ your own risk.

SE also specifically said this would be the first device running the Symbian Foundation operating system, which has barely gotten off the ground yet. I remember reading that it was specifically said at MWC that this device is more of a prototype than a finished device, meant to show off SE’s capabilities (12mp) and to give a peak at the new OS. Hopes shouldn’t be high in the first place.
And as for the X1, that phone was a fail boat. It took WAY too long to come out, it was eclipsed by other devices before its launch, it ruined one of the larger reasons people wanted it (1700 UMTS for T-Mobile), it had a PAR camera at best, and it’s STILL ridiculously expensive. You were only paying for the screen, which can now be had on plenty of other devices. For what it is, I’d even want an iPhone 3G instead.

do not get the tocco, piece of crap. camera is shocking, screen appears with green screen spots easily, technology not worthwhile :Z
