Exclusive Apple iPhone 3.0 screenshots leak out
One of our trusty ninjas just blessed us with some exclusive iPhone 3.0 shots. Things like detailing a video recording application, more settings options, an accessibility entry, and even showing that Apple could possibly be integrating voice dialing, too. Hit the break for the rest of the snappies!
UPDATE: Our ninja hit us up to add some following goodies:
- The final 3.0 firmware is said to support OpenGL ES v2.0.
- There are various references to “ChinaBrick” in some of the 3.0 beta firmwares. Could this a reference to a Chinese-specific iPhone with no 3G and no Wi-Fi? It would be pretty comical if it was…
- We’re also told that there’s a very, very strong possibility video recording will be specifically for the new hardware iPhone and not backwards compatible with the iPhone 3G. Not something entirely new, just more strikes against current users getting some video love, though!

MLK had a “dream” too, so I am ok with that.
Wow, everything is so innovative on iphone 3.0!!! Gotta love it.
I’m suprised no one has posted any comments about Apple’s marketing plan for the iPhone.
Apple could have had all of these “new” features included with the original iPhone but why did they spread it out like this? To build hype and make more people want to upgrade to the 3G and to continue to check out appple.com and see what else they’re up to. They knew the majority of people would want an iPhone and would probably think, “why upgrade to another iPhone when this one already does everything I need?” And now the fact that some of the features will not be compatible with the 2G just shows that they know how to keep the money coming.
Excellent move by apple to do it this way. There really aren’t any “new” features that the iPhone will have this summer except for the accessory integration for apps. Pretty much all phones can record video, do voice dial and oh yeah, support MMS.
I’ve fallen for the trap when it comes to their computers; there was a point where I had purchased five computers within about a two-year period. And why did I fall into that trap? Because apple did the little upgrades to their machines to make the consumer buy the latest item. I went from a G4 PowerBook to a Macbook; then from a Macbook to the white iMac; then from the white iMac to the aluminum iMac; and now from an iMac to a MacBook Pro.

This makes perfect sense. In fact, I theorized that Apple might look to add “camera re-invention” as another one of their disruptor job targets within iPhone/iPod touch, in my post:
iPhones, App Stores and Ecosystems
http://bit.ly/Hre72
Excerpt: What if Apple decided to reinvent the digital camera as a smart, connected, programmable device? It would certainly sync up with some of the features they have recently baked into iLife, such as facial recognition and geocoding of photos.
The main thought process here is that the Flip Video cameras (recently acquired by Cisco) have proven that there is a real market for pocket sized video cameras. If you overlay that goodness on the whole iPhone platform play, what type of software value add might developers plug in on the software front?
Food for thought.

@Steve: What? So the fact that the iPhone has been on a one-year update cycle since the beginning has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they are releasing an OS update and new hardware one year after the last major OS update and hardware upgrade?
Yes, it’s all because of the PRE, for real, because you know Apple always just matches what their competitors do and never ever have their own way of doing things. /sarcasm
Is it me or does it seem like everything that the new android firmware update 1.5 is going to have apple is trying to put into their 3.0 update???
I use to be BB4L then I found a new love “ANDROID” y’all should date her.

any news on the new hardware? bb have new updates almost every day.
All these upgrades are worthless on the crap battery that lasts half a day.
Give me higher capacity battery or removable battery!

Well…
a) The first time I saw a cell phone with battery percentage was on my jailbroken iPhone 3g. Before that, almost all phone’s used to copy some soft of 5-bar thingy to indicate when a battery’s dying down. I’d say it was definitely “inspired” by Cydia.
b) I’m not saying Apple’s scrambling to match the jailbreak community (not yet), but it’s definitely taken some ideas from there and implemented it (which is a smart move)
c) It’s feeling the heat from the newly launched AppWorld & Storm, the G1, and the latest kid on the block – the Pre….which although might not be able to match the App Store in fart app offerings, all the above mentioned can do all these “updates” right out the box. (Except for A2DP for the G1 – which should be available whenever “cupcake” gets released).
please just release it already!
Seems to me this is all stuff for new hardware, like the new camera modules that were mentioned a few days ago. A new iPhone with voice dialing, MMS, a decent camera, decent video recording, a larger, higher resolution, OLED screen, and with luck, a model with a hardware keyboard and I may have to buy an Apple product.
who cares if apple had this planned or they are catching up to the pre release… this just goes to show you that competition is a great thing.
I can’t wait to cash in my old 4GB first gen. for some new apple lovin’

Hmm. I have had the 3.0 Beta for awhile and it has ALWAYS showed me a battery percentage on the status bar. There’s not an option to disable it though.
yeah probably cause they want to have every good possible feature that you can get in cydia to be on the iphone cause apple doesnt want people to jailbreak. but i will still probably jailbreak anyway.
I’m sure the Pre also can’t record video, so what envy are they having.
That’s what I’m saying, how could Apple plan all of this in this period of time.
@Ted
i dont THINK no one knows yet. since the new iphone isn’t announced yet.. i think that will be the only way we will know if there will be a bigger screen resolution.. or until some news is leaked.
Don’t make me laugh, how is Apple supposed to know what’s going on in Palms labs.
@Abhishek,
Fyi the battery % was already built into iPhone os, all cydia did was allow it to be enabled, like emoji. Just like osx can do a shitload more “custom” stuff that you have to enable from terminal.

If u are such an avid bb user, why are u reading the iPhone boy genius report?!? LOL
seems to me like an ordinary or common idea (BTW already implemented for the laptops). This is not rocket science here to claim the idea being stolen from or inspired by some other genius.
Lol, so, Apple found out about the Pre, before everybody else, and said, Oh shit we better start working on 3.0. That is so ridiculous, it puzzles me that somebody actually thinks this is reality.
iPhone OS 1.0 was released in June 2007. Was it to do anything with Palm?? Then OS 2.0 came on June 2008. Now coming in June 2009 is OS 3.0 and I can easily predict for OS 4.0 to come in June 2010. Is that all happening due to palm?? I just don’t think so.
