Exclusive Apple iPhone 3.0 screenshots leak out

One of our trusty ninjas just blessed us with some exclusive iPhone 3.0 shots. Things like detailing a video recording application, more settings options, an accessibility entry, and even showing that Apple could possibly be integrating voice dialing, too. Hit the break for the rest of the snappies!

UPDATE: Our ninja hit us up to add some following goodies:

  • The final 3.0 firmware is said to support OpenGL ES v2.0.
  • There are various references to “ChinaBrick” in some of the 3.0 beta firmwares. Could this a reference to a Chinese-specific iPhone with no 3G and no Wi-Fi? It would be pretty comical if it was…
  • We’re also told that there’s a very, very strong possibility video recording will be specifically for the new hardware iPhone and not backwards compatible with the iPhone 3G. Not something entirely new, just more strikes against current users getting some video love, though!

    Hmmm…battery percentage eh?

    Seems to me a LOT of the new ideas AND interface have been “inspired” by Cydia.

    Agreed. Think at this point Apple is throwing in every possible thing they can.

    The best thing about the 3.0 update is the inspiration all the 3rd party developers will receive to keep improving on the iPhone. Now that Apple is finally defaulting to what JailBreakers did a year ago, we can all expect the envelope to keep being pushed.

    I mean, seriously… did video need to take that long to happen?

    seriously who uses voice dialing? its never accurate and its not like its hard to tap the screen on a contact.

    i am much more excited about the possibility of a much faster processor, 802.11n and a faster at&t network.

    These features have nothing to directly to do with the Pre. iPhone 3.0 has been planned and in development for months. The Pre was announced in the second week of January. iPhone 3.0 was announced March 17th.

    Their is no way in that two month span Apple could have planned and developed extra features that were not previously planned.

    I like the PRE and BlackBerry as a whole but I am an Apple fanboy as so eloquently stated on these nerd gatherings known as tech blogs. So I am hoping for PRE panic so I get a badass 3rd gen iPhone.

    @Abhishek

    I hate to pour cold water on the “jailbreak as driving design decisions” meme, but it seems like a lot of the additions are either ports of Leopard tech or feature completion. Hmm, battery percentage, how long has that been on laptops? Spotlight, that’s already an application launcher on the Mac? I’m not saying Apple may find some inspiration from jailbreak apps. But, overall, I look at the jailbreak apps differently. They are a window into possible directions that Apple will go in. Maybe a jailbreak idea or two will be inspiring, such as a particular Winterboard theme or QuickGold. But claiming that Apple is altering its product roadmap in a scramble to match the jailbreak community, seems flimsy.

    @The dude

    Until the Pre ships, it is vaporware. Plenty of stuff looks great, and then it ships. I’m not trying to disparage the Pre. It looks good. It could be great. And I hope so. As a former Palm and Treo user, I’d like to see them rebound. But I don’t buy the Apple is quaking in their boots over an unreleased product.

    Finally, I really think Apple has a few cards up it’s sleeve for the product launch (that are not just hardware related). I could be wrong, but I imagine that some interface ideas were saved for the big reveal.

    I’m pretty sure Apple knew what Palm had coming down the pipe with the Pre way before January. This is why they felt the need for 3.0 update. They have to keep the playing ground close.
