BlackBerry Storm 2 with Wi-Fi and a new screen

SlashGear reported on a rumor they heard about the next generation BlackBerry Storm launching with Wi-Fi on Verizon Wireless. We’ve been able to confirm that rumor a pretty long while ago, so yes, the Storm 2 will launch on Verizon with Wi-Fi. SlashGear was correct in their report and it’s 100% confirmed. Something not reported though, and now confirmed to us by two independent sources, is the new screen tech involved. We’re told that it improves the screen enormously and makes typing really pleasurable. Better yet? You can leave it to RIM to come up with the dumbest names possible because we heard they’re ditching SurePress and calling this one TruePress. Don’t take that as fact, but it is interesting that both our sources had mentioned the same thing to us. So, the BlackBerry Storm 2 will launch with Wi-Fi and a brand new screen technology, and, if we were a betting bunch we’d wager it will have a 5 megapixel camera.
Don’t you just love rumors?

Me want fast phone with good interface. Me also want 8 megapixel camera with OLED near HD screen

I find it funny when people criticize the Storm/Storm2 and immediately make comparisons to the iPhone3G
Some people have completely forgotten that the iPhone 3G is Apple’s SECOND phone, released A YEAR AFTER the first gen iPhone.
But for those who don’t make the comparison to the iPhone, but still bitch about Storm/Storm2:
I agree, releasing storm2 within a year is BS, thats something we expect from Apple, not RIM.
I’m sure RIM learned a million lessons from Storm, and they had better damn well prove that they can learn from their mistakes.
@J:
The Storm was RIM 100th+ phone! Apple has only made two phones in less than 2 years. They are a market leader and have over 32K apps.
RIM has less than 1K in apps and is offering a laggy device after almost 10 years in the business!
What I hope RIM learned is to STOP listening to carriers like VZW that ONLY want to neuter phones and lock them down. The first Storm should have had WiFi. Without apps like multiplayer games, Skype, SlingPlayer, are mostly impossible.
so what about the GSM version. Will that one haz wifi too?
come on at&t, get on the ball!
Great news! i hope they’ll overhaul the Storm [the addition of Wi-Fi is more than enough for me since I don't use HSDPA].
I may end up buying Storm 2…
Peace everybody!
Hey, I wanted to know if this info is accurate: link these people claim that there has been confirmed the Storm 2 will have a sliding qwerty keyboard. Is this correct?
Everybody says something different about this upcoming phone.

The CDMA BlackBerries do (did) not support Wi-Fi because the Qualcomm chip used in the CDMA versions ran at similar frequencies to the Wi-Fi band. RIM must be using a redesigned chip for this Storm.
) will soon after be getting the Storm 2 as well! Until then (and then some, so the prices get cheaper
), I’ll look into the HTC Touch Pro or Omnia – they both seem like solid phones. If I’m going to stick with RIM (which I really hope to!), they got to get going with this CDMA Wi-Fi thing! This is a very large step in the right direction, and I hope it keeps going this way. Then again, with LTE/4G in horizon, Wi-Fi may just as well be even more unnecessary than Wi-Fi or my home connection for that matter!
Very exciting news indeed! I strayed away from the original/current Storm (Telus Mobility) mostly because it didn’t have Wi-Fi so it didn’t feel as too much of an upgrade from my Pearl. Also because of the many software bugs, and apparently some hardware issues as well.
Anyway, this must mean carriers up north (feels weird saying that, I feel pretty south enough in Toronto
my fingers are too HUGE or i am too clumbsy for the current storm onscreen keyboard.
Hey people. Technology gets better every second. if the bb storm 2 is coming out then good thing for blackberry users. Blackberry storm 1 users, like myself, will just have to shell out for the BB storm 2 if they want the better technology. This is like a video card hardware. New one is released every 3 months, better and faster, for the most part.
Bottomline is: Boooyahhh to newer technology!
I am loving my bb storm i use .109 and its running like butter.
When the new bb storm comes out though i will wait it out a while. New stuff has always bugs and glitches in it.
But if you folks really want something like the iphone… Verizon will get the iphone in later parts of 2010. This is when Apple contract with ATT expires. Iphone will be sold on all carries just like waht the blackberry is doing…
DECISIONS DECISIONS….
I really like the Storm.
If you use it primarily for email (beats the iPhone) and occasional web browsing (not as good as the iPhone), it’s great!
Also, it works around the world.
If the Storm 2 is better, I’m all for it…
it is coming out this September
for all you people that are willing to pay a $30 smartphone monthly fee
Verizon Wireless has a lifetime exclusivity on the Storm.
I have the 5-month old BlackBerry Storm and the current features are AMAZING, but the device and possible OS is buggy at best. It does suck when you take a photo and the thing reboots or it freezes randomly.
I physical touchscreen is yesterday’s smartphones – going forward, I doubt many smartphones will have them. Also, wi-fi is a must, the increased megapixels would be sweet, and a trade-up option (without new contracts) is a must.
I’ve been w/ VZW for 9 years and love their service – it’s much better than AT&T, but some of the VZW device changes are pretty weak.
VZW love ya, but damn – why can’t we have non-VZW GPS, or an option other than V Cast…you make enough money from me each month as it is, give me something to work with!
why not ? you can buy unlock … so funny “nonono no “
i feel the same way about you
i keep waiting for storm 2
i’ll never get one myself
d’oh
for all u fags who want it on t-mobile, just because its cheap, doesn’t mean it’s good. I was going to go with them, until everyone said tht they service sucks a$$! I’m definitly going to wait and see about the storm 2, and i love VZW, especially since my parents get major discounts thru their work.
I have a BB through T-Mobile the Curve II Titanium and its fully equiped with WIFI and UMA! Just responding to the people who says name a carrier that has one… T-Mobile. And I have it. Would like to see another storm come out on the market with WIFI and UMA so I can unlock it and use it on T-Mobile. But I am patient
1 more thing! I love T-Mobile’s service and have been with them since voicestream! Over 11 Years and have never had a Lost/Dropped call in a coverage area, I have had no problems with my service. So I guess I am a fag since I am with T-Mobile? Blow-ME!
@ VZWguy – So Untrue. It belongs to RIM and they can sell that device to any carrier!
How do you get the keyboard to reappear? The keyboard is missing and I can’t dial any of the numbers or sign in to facebook.
Storm2FTW!!
Verizon FAIL..
