BlackBerry Storm 2 with Wi-Fi and a new screen

SlashGear reported on a rumor they heard about the next generation BlackBerry Storm launching with Wi-Fi on Verizon Wireless. We’ve been able to confirm that rumor a pretty long while ago, so yes, the Storm 2 will launch on Verizon with Wi-Fi. SlashGear was correct in their report and it’s 100% confirmed. Something not reported though, and now confirmed to us by two independent sources, is the new screen tech involved. We’re told that it improves the screen enormously and makes typing really pleasurable. Better yet? You can leave it to RIM to come up with the dumbest names possible because we heard they’re ditching SurePress and calling this one TruePress. Don’t take that as fact, but it is interesting that both our sources had mentioned the same thing to us. So, the BlackBerry Storm 2 will launch with Wi-Fi and a brand new screen technology, and, if we were a betting bunch we’d wager it will have a 5 megapixel camera.

Don’t you just love rumors?

Hopefully the improved Truepress means a slide out keyboard. If it doesn’t have that, I’m not interested. RIM, you fooled me once with the Storm. Shame on you. You won’t fool me again.

When I tried the storm on release for 2 weeks, I couldn’t get a single bar of service at my condo just off the Vegas Strip. Can anyone speak on if their Storm currently gets service on the Strip? Specifically by In N Out on Tropicana? My Bold

I would have to say the perfect Blackberry Storm would have the following:

    Less weight
    9630 battery door
    Trackball
    Slide out 8900 keyboard

    @ no u
Learn how to read moron, I said the Network Extender uses VoIP. No where did I say it uses wi-fi to acomplish this feat. I was saying VZW is working on ways to still find a way to charge you, if they ever do allow UMA support on a wi-fi enabled device… Is everyone retarded? Wow… Just wow.

I stood in line and bought the storm, and seeing this story actually makes me excited and happy. It means that VZW is starting to realize that turnicating wifi from BBs might not be in it’s best interest with the iPhone/ATT at the top of the heap.

Plus, the way RIM works with their releases, I would be surprised if they released this phone before November.

Any idea if this will come to AT&T?

I wanted the fist Storm, but it didn’t have Wi-Fi, so I went with the iPhone.

    1 Bold Opinion says:

People just amaze me with all there crying and bickering! All you that “just had to have” the Storm(or any new device) when it is launched had 30 days to take it back if you did not like it. The ones that bought it afterwards should have known it had problems (Just like every device does)and you also had 30 days to take it back. Now, there is another Storm releasing and it (May) be better than the current one. Some of you act like RIM “suddenly realized” the first Storm was not up to par, so they rushed to make a better one.( Just to piss off the ones that bought the first version) Devices are planned in advance, some make it to market, some don’t. Grow up, wipe your tears or go someshere else to bitch about it.

    backbeat says:

Not that there is necessarily anything either ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ with it, but, if the timeframe is true, RIM may be following the Apple model of 1-Yr anniversary releases for the Storm line. Since it’s certainly RIM’s answer to the the iPhone [whose sales track-record does anything but suck], it wouldn’t be a bad decision to follow that pattern. That is, as long as RIM gets the Storm right.

If these leaks are true and don’t introduce new sets of problems, RIM could be well on its way to some serious market share.

    Darren says:

I really think that if they make the “TruePress” to be localized screen clicking (which then I think they’d have to get away from a glass screen) it would really do wonders. That and tweak the OS and you’re set.

While I don’t doubt the existence of this device, I do question the timing and whether or not there are additional RIM devices slated around the same time (99xx?)

Also, regarding VZW and their stance on wifi, get ready for some interesting news this summer…

Since I’m a Sprint customer I wish your sources would tell you Sprint will be getting the Storm. Even though Sprint is far from perfect I will not switch to Verizon just because of the Storm just like I will not switch to AT&T just because of the iphone. I currently own an Instinct and I will not buy another smart phone that doesn’t have wi-fi.

    Nick says:

Lol just last week Ive had Verizon for ever and the storm sucks the big one. I got it on Nov 23 2008 (launch day) This phone had so much potential. But this phone sucks! Just one update since launch and that was a week after the launch. Its been 5 months about and still no official release lol, a fricken joke. This phone is a beta phone. Now Rim wants to launch a better one. Give it up RIM leave touch screen to palm and apple…Why? They work. Storm 2 will not work Storm 1 did not work how do they think 2 will work. Please. Class action lawsuit on the way.
