RIM’s upcoming devices: Onyx, Driftwood, Magnum

So… one of our ninjas just hit us up with some really interesting BlackBerry info. While the specs of the following codenames are confirmed, releases are not, and as such, this should be used for information sake. Here’s what we got:
BlackBerry Onyx:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
- GPS
- Camera
- Wi-Fi (no UMA support)
- QWERTY keyboard
- 480×360 resolution screen
- Confirmed carriers: AT&T
BlackBerry Driftwood:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
- GPS
- Camera
- Wi-Fi with UMA
- QWERTY keyboard
BlackBerry Magnum:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS device
- GPS
- Camera
- Wi-Fi (no UMA support)
- QWERTY keyboard
- 480×360 resolution screen
- Confirmed carriers: AT&T
Now, those are three different devices with practically the same rough specs. We’d wager than the BlackBerry Magnum and Driftwood are the same device just meant for different carriers. Possibly the Driftwood for T-Mobile let’s say, and the Magnum for AT&T (who doesn’t offer UMA). Is that the BlackBerry with touch screen and physical QWERTY? Probably.
Also, we learned that RIM might be slowly refreshing the Bold with a UMA-capable version. Again, we’re not sure if that’s just a version meant for T-Mobile or maybe Rogers or this will be a global refresh (we doubt the last part).
Remember the BlackBerry Gemini? Well, it seems as if that’s not just one device, but rather an entire line of devices. Don’t get too excited, though. We’re told it could possibly just be a refresh of the Curve line-up. (Low cost handsets). The same could also be done with the Pearl line-up.
To recap: the Onyx, Driftwood and Magnum devices are all in the 9000-series family, all have 3G, and all should be absolutely delicious.

Im Shocked.. More damn Blackberrys.. i cant keep up lol.. I dont see no Verizon, Whats up with that??
But, isnt Verizon Wireless getting the next Blackberry 99XX Series codenamed:Pluto.. Read the link below:
http://www.cnbc.com/id/30013378
exactly! and i’m too lazy to look up all the different variations in model numbers in the past 2-3 months. ha
Verizon has to be getting at least one of the three according to the proof link above i have presemted
… lol
Enough with the 2G/2.75G and 3G crap, lets get some 3G/4G stuff going in LTE and WiMAX so we can just keep our precious BlackBerries by then and pay a premium to have it early.
*snickers*
Wow! Great spec list, I have learned a lot. I will re-read this post over and over with excitement. *Yawn*
@Richie
I have no idea what Jim Goldman is talking about.
richie that was a faked picture they even said it was they said they made that picture that phone isnt really real
Interesting I’m afraid that rim is putting too many devices out remember with American Car companies and how every Car Company had at least 6 SUV’s now they barely able to sell one. Not everyone has to have a berry. Ick these names are so Random!!
Why not
Zebra 9250?
Hairless? 9560?
Lol
It would be nice if RIM combined the blackberry storm idea with the sure press screen with a trackball AND a physical keyboard….imagine a bold with a blackberry storm screen/screen functionality…
droooooool…slurp
CDMA has nothing to look forward to other than the 9630
BG, any info updates on the release of the 9630?
With any hope, the Storm will see the light of day on a US GSM carrier [with no less than the recently leaked firmware which has made the Verizon version the way it was meant to be]. Add in WiFi, as is spec’d in the FCC’s GSM approval and it will be a real contender. 2H 09 is going to be another record setting year at RIM.
@joe
So many people have problems with the trackball. Including me. After a month of use the trackball gets jammed. They should do an optical mouse type thing like the Samsung Omnia. I have a few friends with Omnias and none have had problems with the otical mouse.
Great! How many years will we have to wait to buy one? Is this the Summer 2012 line! Sorry,I am jonesing for a 3g, wifi, 3.2 megapixel, Blackberry from the deathstar(ATT)!
Magnum just sounds like a condom….or like its way too big.
Why would they put out a Bold with UMA for T-Mobile(maybe)? T-Mobile already passed on the Bold before.
@koolaidWTF
Not sure. It might just be a hardware model that was going to be made/canceled or something they are actually doing. There was reports of a 1700MHz Bold a little while back so even though T-Mobile may have “passed” the hardware may exist.
@Rob: -That- would be AT&T’s version of the Storm [or an unlocked Rogers version].
@ BG
Your probably right. The hardware for the phone probably still exists, and still has a chance of getting produced. But I just don’t think T-Mo will release it.
But with the Magnum you didn’t get any word on it being touchscreen also? And being renamed Dakota?
Backbeat,
My apologies for not listing a qwerty keyboard, 3g, wifi, 3.2 megapixel balckberry from ATT. I have an ipod touch and prefer a physical keyboard, No iphone for me!
Rob
Bring it on T-MObile but Bring it soon so we don’t have 3G phones when 4G is Surging in 2 years
I hope one of them is for T-Mobile. Is there a tentative release date? Since the Bold and 8900 are pretty recent, I suppose we shouldn’t expect them anytime soon.
So Sprint still gets nothing….
