Optimum Online accessed over 1,000,000 times for free
Cablevision’s Optimum Online service recently announced that its subscribers have connected and used their free Wi-Fi access points over 1,000,000 times. Pretty amazing, actually. We got a heads up they are offering free Wi-Fi on all of their Wi-Fi hotspots across their service area (NY/NJ/CT) to subscribers of its Optimum Online internet service. At a time with so many consumer Wi-Fi applications and services like T-Mobile’s Hotspot@Home, the new Skype iPhone app and more, it’s quite an enticing offer. So if free Wi-Fi is the sort of thing that floats your boat, be sure to hit up the read link for an interactive network coverage map. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the very generous coverage.

I have use the service multiple times and it’s pretty good i have to say, it’s like is everywhere in northern NJ, first i though it was only available in malls and near bus stops but it’s like almost everywhere. What kills me is how you have to log in throw a web page but it’s not that bad. Just another reason not to get fios, and now that they’re about to switch their DOCSYS 3.0 on it’s a done deal, i heard it’s gonna be 5x faster than the current fios and stay the same price.
Yea, I use it about everyday when I’m not home. Coverage in my area here in NY is 100% even on highways. Perfect to use with netbooks or devices like the iPhone in order to get works done even before getting to the office.
No longer need those 3G usb modem that cost $60/month with a 5GB cap.
i… despise… Optimum .. er Cablevision..
I use them and the internet is slightly bogged down where I am.. I’ve tried to access the wifi, and its not in spots that i visit, they say its all over (long island) but its not..
But than again, I’ve been trying to access to test it for awhile and my pw never seems to work.. others seem to have better luck.
@keymaker: What’s this docsys you speak of? And will this make my Optimum Boost subscription any faster?
Cablevision is a horrible company. IO cable is garbage. I’ve had Time Warner, Cablevision, and RCN. They all suck. Give me some Comcast.

I heard the updated DOCSYS 3.0 is going to be considered an ultra tier 50/50 and be more than Boost.
I have Boost now.. hope they keep adding faster speeds to it.
WTF?! This isn’t a post about Pamela Anderson!
Looks over at Comcast, eyes squinted – Ok, now it’s time for the big C to step up and offer free WiFi access to its customers as well.
They have implemented this on a small scale basis at NJ Transit locations here in southern New Jersey (well, at least they said they were going to). As a customer, I would love to see them go wide scale with this in the NJ/PA/DE area.
“Docsis” 3.0 is going to allow a huge jump in bandwidth….downstream and upstream. So in a nutshell, yes it’ll make ur boost (which is 30mbps down) MUCH faster. Allowing well over 100mbps and up to 300mbps+ depending on the type of modem and the channels. We wont see 300mbps yet but soon enough. Its inevitable. WAN Speeds will dramatically increase over the next year as a lot of focus has been put on increasing wireless speeds as well. From what I heard, new fiber is being laid out through out the world. So the internet speeds will soon go through a huge boom.
I dont see it around where I am. And according to the map theres coverage
I have 5 static IPs, + 30mbps/5mbit business connection for $55 a month ($20 discount for a phone line).
I work all around NYC (bronx and upper manhattan mostly) and live in Northern NJ (across the Hudson River) but I have never used nor even seen optimum’s wifi
Oh and it’s DOCSIS. They’re running 2.0 right now on the modems but DOCSIS 3.0 specs will allow 50mbps and 100mbps (which they are beta testing to special customers)
