Receiving video MMS works on iPhone OS 3.0?

Ever since the iPhone 3.0 beta was released, only the lucky and skilled have managed to enable MMS on their iPhones. It’s not that it’s impossible to do, you just have to know your way around the OS and do some modifications, enter settings, and that sort of stuff. What everyone has been wondering, however, was how the iPhone would handle videos sent over MMS. We’re happy to report that you can receive and play videos over MMS just fine. Check out one more screen shot after the jump!

Are the modification that you have to do enough that there is a question of if this would still work in the production build?
BTW you forgot the ’s’ on macrumors. That link just goes to a place holder page.
YES!!!!! YES!!! YES!!!!
Another night of sleep is coming my way!
Is their a way to enable this on 2.0?
Or even better to upgrade to the new beta (via torrent) without locking the iPhone ?

Pretty cool, too bad it took two years for this to come through. Maybe if it were sooner i’d still have my iphone, not that mms is necessary i just like the ability to use it.
How about it only works on 3G… As Bdizzah said, should of been like this from the start…
This is for sure an April Fool’s Joke… The first screen shot is simply a text message saying “Attachment: 1 Video”
hope this isnt an april fools joke!
When is 3.0 gonna be available? I tried d/l it but cant seem to do it
LOOKS LIKE A PHOTOSHOP TBH.
Seeing as though the font used for “Video” looks slightly different and the play icon on the video speech bubble is off center.
iPhone = ftl anyway.
I AM OBAMA. SELL YOUR iPHONE AND BUY A HANDSET WORTH THE RRP.
Kbai.
Another “new” feature that should’ve been on ANY smartphone in that price range.
On one hand it’s great that Apple is finally gettin these features on board.
But on the other hand it just reminds you that somehow a high end smartphone didn’t have MMS or copy and paste.
Does it play 3gp files now? Most feature phones record 3gp video and it is especially well suited for MMS, as the message must be small in size.
If 3.0 adds a physical keyboard great, if it doesn’t, it’s still a toy, a really great toy, but not ready for primetime, business-wise
April Fools
@jp
Negative.
Oh boy! We can has?!
Say what you will, it’s certainly overdue, but a function I’ve lived without just fine. Every smartphone is capable of email too.

I’ll act like an iTard for a minute and pretend this is interesting (like every other phone hasn’t had this for plenty of years) to ask if said received videos (and pictures) can be saved to the device? Or is that whole access to the filesystem thing still a problem without hacks?
Why does a phone have to be labeled a “toy” just because it’s not geared towards business?! I think it’s a weak assessment and a gross exaggeration on the use of mobile phones for mostly business purposes.
I certainly don’t see the correlation in a physical keyboard to accomplishing business tasks on a mobile phone. At best, that’s a subjective choice…and considering the number of iPhones sold, I’d say not really an impediment to purchases.
If Apple can sell this many iPhones while NOT having these features that critics say make it an average smartphone, then it’s gotta suck to be those other phone mfgs once the iPhone does have them!

When’s the new update come out

@D9
Calm down, we can all see you are an iPhone fanboy. Chances are in my opinion Apple will NEVER completely take over the cell phone market or computer market. Actually last time I checked the apple market share is DOWN verse PC.
@D9
The iPhones sales are not based upon it having a good set of features at that price. It doesn’t. What it does have is a very smooth OS and a very stylish look as well as a stylish brand name.
Other manufacturers aren’t quaking in their boots now that the iPhone can do things that a 3 year old $150 Samsung slider could do.
And a physical keyboard does make it a bit better for business in the simple sense that you can type faster and you lose a bit of that stylish look by having to implement the keyboard.
As for the “toy” assessment, that’s really just saying it’s more of a multimedia device (which is true) and therefore less serious. Does that make it a “toy?” Probably not.
@ D9:
I agree. Why do other manufacturers even bother making phones. The iPhone is the greatest gadget to ever exist and should be considered as such. We should go back to having no options and just have iPhones available for all carriers. Because, like you said, it’s gonna suck to be the manufacturers of other phones once the iPhone gets features that it should have had 2 years ago.
It’s real. I’m a dev and I can confirm you can receive Video messages on the iPhone 3G 3.0.
why is this not a business phone? I get my exchange email, calendar and contacts synced wirelessly. I have been using it for biz email for a year now and its solid. So I cant cut n paste… big deal! I’ve been ok.
yeah, I’d have to disagree with that “not for business” comment as well. Entourage calendar and mail synced, accepting meeting requests work fine. it’s the primary smartphone used where I work. The only annoying part is when an office-wide meeting request goes out and a sea of iphones start beeping, haha.
@JD – I think it depends on how much use you have during each day. For my job, the iPhone battery would be dead after about 4-5 hours to the extend we use our handhelds. That is, for our purposes, utterly not practicle because 1) you cant swap out battery, and 2) we would be ever looking around for charge cords/outlets.
An Apple store Genius had a suggestion – don’t use the phone and the battery will last a lot longer. I told him they should have named it the ‘i’.
I have successfully downloaded os 3.0 from torrent and using shift click restore loaded it onto my 3G iphone with itunes 8.1 with no problems.
The phone was activated and started right up, no developer account no nothing.
I can say that what you’re seeing here on this page is in fact legit. I am not able to activate MMS on my phone however the message appears in my SMS thread just as it does in the picture above… haven’t tried videos but it appears the same.
Search features are cool and the landscape mode for mail and sms is also very cool. MMS and tethering would be great if I could figure out how to turn it on.
