Palm Pre to be released on April 30th?

Take this with as much salt as a delicious freshly baked pretzel, but according to an alleged beta tester of the Palm Pre, the highly anticipated device will be released on April 30th for $299.99 with a two-year contract. The source of the information, Jim Van, works for Logicomm; an IT company based out of Rhode Island. Now, we know a lot of people are going to be excited about this, but we remain very, very skeptical. A few things working against the source: 1) He would certainly be under NDA from both Palm and Sprint forbidding him from discussing the product in private, let alone public. 2) Why would a beta tester have been told pricing and release date? 3) Then there’s the fact that no real and conclusive evidence is given, of course. We’d love to be wrong and have the Pre drop on us as early as possible but at this point in time, we’re still leaning towards late May/early June launch as we’ve stated in the past. Of course pushing it up to late April would be as great for Palm as it is unlikely — the more space between the Pre launch and the new iPhone announcement, the better.

Have you even had Sprint service? It’s the best, hands down. I love how everyone knocks Sprint because their the little guy, but that’s what makes them so good. Everytime I have an issue, they treat me like a person, not as a dispoable customer like Verison and AT&T do. Geez buddy, STFU

DON’T DON’T DON’T get the Blackberry Bold while waiting for Palm.

I’ve been a Palm user since thet Treo 650 came out and upgraded to the Treo 680 when that was released. My 680 went through the mill, so to speak,-soaked in the ocean, burried in the sand, dropped so many times, the outside housing was cracked and beat up but it still functioned without missing a beat. In the fall my 11 year old wanted a phone with internet access-I gave him my old 650 which by Christmas had him wanting more, because of technology advances the 650 couldn’t handle.

I, on the other hand was waiting patiently for the new palm but was getting embarassed at the cosmetic condition of the phone I was using. When buying my son an Iphone, (should say the “money pit” phone cause my son is always putting money away to buy Itunes gift cards to purchased applications which he was used to doing with his Treo 650, but they were free and gave in and brought the Blackberry Bold figuring I would only need it for a couple of months. BIG MISTAKE!

After three months of getting so frustrated with the things I couldn’t do on BB and paying for applications, the thing that pushed me over the limit was the darn roller ball would get stuck and rending the phone useless. I could not answer the phone when my son’s doctor called, a call I waiting three days for. I then started carring my old 680 with me as back up for when the BB roller was stuck. When February came and Pre wasn”t released, I went to ebay and purchased a new Treo 680, slided the SIM card in, synced my info from my old 680 to the new one and now life goes on-it’s so nice to be home again waiting for the release of the Pre-I just hope Web OS is as user friendly as Palm Os was and Genius is converted to Web Os.

Palm has always had it right!

@Steven: Not everyone can be fortunate to live in Kansas City, Mo. ;)

@diana: Don’t make the same mistake of giving into the hype that you apparently did with the Bold. Blackberry, is, was, and likely always be a business device first with some entertainment features added. If you’re looking more for a feature-phone that doesn’t require security and you don’t mind paying for subscription-based services which the Pre will require, it may be more your cup o’ tea. :)

That weak argument of reception comes again, maybe but highly doubtful we will see this in April

^The only thing ‘weak’ is your [deflective argument] signal strength and coverage. Documented facts are a bitch to which you can only whine about their existence.

Indexing doesn’t work on blogs as it does elsewhere, idiot. Churn the Palm-shit all you like. It matters not, Don Quixote. :)

So now that site is be all of coverage, nobody finds one source that backs up thier opinion, call the arguing points lies with insults added and leave that as end can really say the argument is won. Is that in response to recent surveys that say Sprint (CDMA) is tied for 1 or 2 throughout the country for voice and 1 by themselves or 2 on data, sources would be Gizmodo and JD Power and they have a better track record than your new coverage site. Notice not one defamatory comment was made. Howard Stern decided to keep his Bold instead of the Pre, that marketing plan backfired. Still doubt this will see the light of day before May at the earliest

@DonQuixote who said: “call the arguing points lies with insults added”

Somewhere in your disturbed little world, the term “whine” is defined as both a lie and an insult where you’ve provided all the evidence required thereof. Got it. That’s defamatory enough to any thinking reader.

    Fuck you, sniveling bitchboy. :)

Without *coverage* you have no voice or data. Follow the logic? Get the connection? Follow the bouncing ball?

    http://www.gotreception.com

What the site clearly demonstrates is how relative *coverage* is to each carrier, so that any person can map out any geography [street-level / city / state / Regional / National and be provided a comprehensive comparison of which carrier serves their interests best. End of story.

-Still- churning shit that doesn’t index, eh Bunky?

And this brand new site that will continue to link just after doing so is not perfect and repeats the street level stuff seen on the carrier sites, I actually put in a few of my frequented areas and Nextel was a consistent winner so Sprint still wins. Can I get an explaination on why you think JD Power isn’t talking about the same thing in call quality or data, w/o an insult? As a matter of fact is there a story here on this site about the JD Power findings, that would be a better place for this debate

    backbeat says:

Your mistake is that you believe there exists a debate. What works for you … works for you. What works for me … works for me. Coverage is in the eye of the beholder. Why are you paranoid/afraid of encouraging others to explore what works best for -them-? :)

Thanks for the confirmation that http://www.gotreception.com is as up-to-date with tower info as the carriers themselves. BTW, they’ve been tracking coverage for a year and a half. Why the need to lie, DonVinnie? ;)

It’s about education without bias, SprintBitchBoy. We all know what a low-brow pimp you are for Sprint [together with NexTel]. :)

The debate came from YOU, backbeat, introducing and re-introducing this site as proof that Sprint doesn’t have coverage.

    backbeat says:

^There is no debate, DonVinnie. Only graphic views of coverage which is confirmed by each carrier involved.

There is no room for ‘opinion’ as these comprehensive coverage comparisons require technical confirmation. “Debate” requires ‘opinion’, thus there is no debate.

Your limited thinking is showing, that site is the crux of discussion, the fact that it was brought up at all and validity of the site oh and the fact you’ve repeated it about in most of the recent post. From your own keyboard came, what works for you is what works for you and what works for me works for me, so why continue to litter Palm stuff if it clearly doesn’t work for you

Your blindness to the difference between “discussion” and “debate” is quite underwhelming, SprintBitchBoy.
