AT&T’s LG Xenon comes out of hiding

Having been delayed by AT&T causing it to miss its pre-Christmas launch, live photos of the LG Xenon are just now starting to surface on the internet in true pre-release style. The photos — taken with what one can only assume to be an old Nokia 6820 in dismal lighting conditions — don’t reveal much about the full-QWERTY slider that we don’t already know except for the OS of the device, which is said to be very similar to Samsung’s TouchWIZ in that it relies upon a series of widgets that can be moved to and fro. A quick recap of the known specs:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)
  • 950 mAh battery
  • 105.5mm x 53.5mm x 15.8mm
  • 240×480 2.8″ LCD
  • 3 megapixel FF + VGA (VT)
  • 100MB of memory with microSD support up to 16GB
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • USB 2.0
  • Wi-Fi
  • EMP U330 Lite Chipset

As of now, we’re still looking at an April 9th release, barring more delays of course. In the meantime, feel free to hit the jump for a few more pics.

    “Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)” ummm, AT&T won’t carry it if it doesn’t have 850/1900MHz 3G?

I hope with the rumors of it being a slider that the VX11000 ends up looking a bit like this.

If this device doesn’t have 1900 WCDMA I might actually check it out – it might not have all of the problems with dropped calls on ATTWS since they turned on 850 here and started the mixed 850/1900 mess. I’d like to check out a phone with one band or the other, but not both!

Tough pick between this LG & the samsung impression, some things I like & dislike about both brands…had a Vu & it’s U.I. was kinda boring so I guess I’ll have to play w/ both!!!

Following the link it doesn’t mention anything about Wifi and it only seems to have a 2MP camera. And even looking at the screen I’d say it is 400×240…otherwise that’ll be one epic 2:1 ratio.

    echoRelay says:

This has to be incorrect. (Work as an RSC) Only our smart phones carry the 2100 mhz band. “Dual Band’ generally refers to 850 / 1900 and “Tri-Band UMTS/HSPA” generally would refer to 850/1900/2100.

Current devices that support “Tri-Band UMTS/HSPA” is:
    Apple® iPhone™ 3G*
    AT&T Tilt™
    BlackBerry® Bold™
    HTC Fuze™
    LG Incite
    Palm® Treo™ 750
    Samsung BlackJack™ II
    Samsung Epix™
    Sony Ericsson Z750a
    PC cards
    - Sierra Wireless Aircard™ 881
    - AT&T USBConnect

This won’t be a smartphone. Demoed this phone at a LG event and the phone has an OS similar to the LG Vu. Touch screen is very responsive and the build quality seems to surpass other full qwerty sliders.

Wifi is not on the fact sheet on ATT’s site. What happened to it? For over 6 months people have been saying this phone is going to have it, what happened?

    abcyesn says:

As far as the Xenon’s touch UI goes, it’s pretty much par for the course—in fact, anyone who’s familiar with the touchscreen Vu will immediately recognize the same interface on the Xenon.

And while the 3G-enabled handset comes with the plenty of messaging features (mobile e-mail, SMS/MMS, and instant messaging are supported), streaming video/music downloads, and one-way video conferencing over the two-megapixel camera, don’t look for smartphone capabilities here—indeed, even LG reps are careful not to call the Xenon a smartphone.

I have had this phone for about 3 weeks.
I wanted a phone that could browse and use a calendar…maybe I should have got a real PDA BUT THE ATT rep suggested this one. I had already taken back my Nokia which was a pain to use. But this one is not much better. I guess you have to decide (obviously) what features are the most important to you. But intuitively, all things considered, I would not buy the LG Xenon again. I paid about $100 for it w/ my rebate. But I am willing to get a different phone just because this phone bugs me so much. On the upside, the Data Unlimited works with this and that is a worthwhile bonus.
