Two new Samsung handsets, S8000 and M8000, revealed

Ok hold onto your seats, people. Two upcoming Samsung handsets headed to the Asian market were just leaked and… They’re both full-touchscreens! We know, we know — it’s hard to believe. Above on top, we have the S8000 which touts a 5 megapixel camera and dual-LED flash while the M8000 beneath it is pretty much a mystery as far as specs are concerned. Both handsets sport 240×400 pixel touchscreens and an interesting new d-pad design (that should help separate them from every other full-touchscreen on the planet) flanked by nice big send / end buttons. Meh. Hit the jump for more pics.

WoW! More slate phones from Samsung?! Talk about beating a dead horse! On the bright side, most never see the shores of the US … and with that ridiculous D-pad ‘controller’ … that’s a good thing. ;)

    Never trust Samsung….

Omnia was the worst WINMO phone I’ve owned and Pixon battery couldn’t even last longer than 3/4 day…..

As a market researcher, including moibile phones, I can say that Samsung has been very successful in attracting customer attention, but not retention. Omnia and now these eye candies. Technically sound? I have my doubts

^What’s not to know about a glossed-over retread of the same WM that’s been around for ~4 years?

aleis is correct, the Omnia is one of the best WM phones released recently but you DO have to know how to use it. First make sure you have the latest rom for stability(IA5 for GSM versions). The Samsung widgets are a waste of time and should be disabled but that then leaves you with a pretty bare WM device so look for SPB Mobile Shell or similar. Installing flashlite 3.1 gives you flash videos in Opera and if you have the GSM version you can even get some beta WM 6.5 roms. The Omnia’s biggest weakness though is that its made by Samsung who are not very commited to the Omnia despite its healthy sales and the widgets are only good for eye-candy. In the hands of HTC this hardware would be better utilised and would probably sell even more.

However, for a WM hating-site like BGR it wont matter. For instance, these phones are not known to be running WM yet somehow WM bashing found its way into this post. I guess some people think we would be better off if we all owned iphones and were good little clones rather than have some individuality and be free to choose what phone OS we want to run.

    Samsung+TouchWiz+Symbian=FTW!

I was a diehard Nokia fan, but after using a Samsung Touchscreen phone (Eternity), I love the hardware tech and simple UI. For me, combining that with a Symbian OS is Tech Pron for the ages!

Does the honeycomb nav-button denote these as WM 6.5 devices? Would it even make sense to do that if Sammy will use there TouchWiz UI anyway?
