HTC Touch Pro2 headed to T-Mobile USA?
A leaked ROM over at xda-developers suggests that the Touch Pro2, codenamed Rhodium, may be headed to T-Mobile in the not-so-distant future. The ROM is for a device, RHOD21000, with the CID of T-MOB010 — the US country ID also used for the Dash and the Shadow — and has a target language listed as “USA”. The ROM has the usual Windows Mobile fare from both 6.1 and 6.5 including Facebook, YouTube, Opera, the HTC-specific game Teeter and even a MyFaves tab on TouchFLO 3D. So, T-Moblers, how sweet would that be? We’ll be sure to keep an ear to the ground at CTIA and see what we can dig up.
Update: Hit the jump for what appear to be live images of the T-Mobile branded Touch Pro2 headed to Tmo US.

its about damn time tmo releases a better wm phone. my mda got old quick, i passed over the wing because that wasnt really an upgrade, & this unlocked tilt is fine but after seeing the tp2 a few weeks back it’s just felt a lil dated. yay tmo! release this phone. i’ve been out of contract for about 2 years now, i hope i can get a great deal.
Wow if this has HotSpot calling (UMA) and 3G, this would seriously make me consider dumping my Curve 8900 lol
oh yeah, if you look at the filename of the firmware it even says Rhodium_TMOUS
I ♥ the above two people… Thank you for the additional form of possible confirmation! Thank you, thank you!
me likey. i might purchase this
I love how people like to knock on T-Mobile’s success. They are behind on some aspects (customer service not being one), but with the very fair price point and growing selection of phones. I believe I’m happier with T-Mobile than AT&T in my neck of the woods. I can’t wait for this phone. If you’re happy with your iFone, then so be it, but I couldn’t imagine being an Apple fanboy myself. I just like to be original.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this phone fares. I can’t stand the bezel on the current touch pro but the physical keyboard on htc devices is very solid. We’re getting close to a phone that is near netbook level in functionality. Is this the one?
I’m happy for T-Mobile customers, but for me it’s all about the Touch Pro 2 on Sprint as a World Phone.
I can’t wait to ditch AT&T–love my Tilt but can’t stand the network. At SXSW in Austin last week it was almost impossible to get any data at all.
now i kind of want to go back to tmo. get some better phones verizon and you’ll continue get my money.
Great to see T-Mobile is finally getting back in the WinMo office phone game.
Still kicking around my MDA and was 2 weeks from getting a touch pro when the TP2 news broke. I’m also hoping the rumors about a May release are accurate.
Happy for t mobile users (bastards). Any chance for an unlocked version. So far this is the only phone ive been looking forward to buying this summer.
Palm Pre looks nice but im not so sure.

aside from the qwerty keyboard, will it have an touch screen one, since it is kind of tedious, having to open it for everything, and btw how thick might it be?
This is awesome but i’ll be getting a iPhone and wit the 3.0 update it should be a very good device

I”m still doing fine with an original Kaiser & some XDA tweaks. It’s been good to me. This looks like the next iteration but I’m not convinced it will be significantly much better as of yet; certainly not with WinMo 6.1 and probably not with even with 6.5. Think I’ll wait and see how it actually turns out before I get my shorts in a bunch.
My god some people just lack common sense. 1st off T-Mobile’s Customer service has been rated #1 for years compared to ALL the other competition. 2nd off The reason you “lost” your numbers is b/c They were not stored on your sim card and you cancelled your sidekick plan….DUH what did you think would happen? the sidekick stores numbers on a server and you cancelled your plan hmmm??? and last but not least other manufacturers DO make phones compatible with 1700 umts (xperia x1a)just to name 1 example. T-Mobile just launched there 3g network recently therefore you should see plenty of phones in the near future that will be compatible with there 3g network (1700)… Dont’ you hate it when ignorant people leave negative comments on things that doesn’t even concern them… “Positive anything is better than negative nothing.”

I am with you every step of the way. I’ve had a boner fr this phone when I first heard of it.
I have a G1 and HATE IT!!! The G1 is nothing short of a new version of a sidekick. It’s worthless to me, so having a phone that looks a sleek as this one would be great. I’ve owned the Dash before getting the G1 and I still think it was a better phone than what I have now.
Here’s hoping for the Touch Pro 2 to come to us soon.
i agree with comment above. had dash, switched to G1, moved back to dash. i pray this phone is for tmobile. its sleek, sophisticated and business oriented
never seen excitement on WM phones after SDA and MDA
the fun is about to begin
though we had a leaked pic of HTC Tungsten a couple of months ago
it’s about time to release 3G WM phone
HTC Maple, on the other hand, is kinda on low-end side, though it has 3G as well
This could very well be the phone that makes me dump my blackberry. Gotta give it a hands-on as soon as it gets in stores. And by the way, to all you people that like to ruin other’s excitement, I have T-Mobile now and have had in the past most of the other major carriers except AT&Trash. T-Mo is unquestionably the best carrier I have ever had to deal with. Customer service has been superb and the coverage in my area is great.
Eric – sorry you had a bad experience with these guys, my interactions with their support staff have left me thinking that these guys actually get it. Usually their CSRs are bright, eager, helpful, enthusiastic and cool. The whole experience reminded me of Virgin or Southwest instead of the typical experience which I would say is more like going to the DMV.
HTC makes a bunch of cool phones and this one seems a worthy upgrade to the Touch Pro. One of tthe things that I have hoped for most with that phone has been a tilting keyboard just like the Kaiser. In the Touch Pro2, my wish just came true. More CPU would be nice, but we all want lots of things. At InnoPath, I use both the Kaiser and the Raphael for demos. While I like the looks of the Raphael, in many ways I like the Kaiser better and this phone seems much more a Kaiser2 than a Touch Pro2.
thank god i cannot wait
i jizzed…in..my pants
Eh, whoever complains about T-mo cust svc never actually had to deal w/ T-mo cust svc. I have been on T-mo, Cingular/At&t and even Helio(for less than 30 days) and T-mo has been #1 in cust svc compared to my experiences. At&t Wireless had pissed me off so bad I was yelling at their superisor, saying there was a reason they were going under and folding into Cingular (at the time). Which really had nothing to do w/ their customer service, but that’s how much hate At&t instilled in me.
And look up the FCC’s statistics on complaints about cell carriers… At&t is consistently #1! I guess they don’t care what they’re #1 at, as long as it’s #1, eh?
And Helio… we won’t even go into that. It was an experiment I tried and probably the #1 reason I walked away from it was their horrendous customer service. If Helio has a grave somewhere, I’mma release all my bodily fluids and waste on their headstone.
Anyway… the G1 is NOT that bad. I’ve had WinMo PDA & Smartphones before and transitioned to G1 nicely. I’ve never had a Sidekick and am offended when people compare it to a Sidekick. For the ones saying they hate the G1, your words mean nothing unless you tell us what exactly is lacking compared to your older WinMo phones. “I fooking hate the iPhone” just sounds like I’m a hater. “I fooking hate the iPhone because it doesn’t cut and paste” is a little more insightful. I will say the most disappointng thing for me on the G1 is that camera. Worst camera ever. You can only take picture of statues and manequins because anything that moves will blur.
Don’t forget that T-mo needs a different 3G radio. Touch Pro 2 doesn’t mean sh!t to me until I see a spec for T-mo 3G. Show me that spec, then I might just pay full price for this phone. I like my G1, I’ve grown fond of the apps I have and love the way it’s touchscreen works, but I don’t absolutely love it due to the camera and it’s awkard aesthetics.
Just for you Eric, i’ve come back to piss off BGR some more. You, Eric, are a dimwit. It is not T-Mo’s fault your contacts were lost. And they didn’t charge an activation fee to get them back, that’s just stupid. Sidekick work off of the hiptop servers. That’s where your contacts are stored, as well as the rest of your crap. You said you changed features, and that’s why your contacts disappeared. You stopped paying for the connection to that server. So, in order to get them back, you had to add the SK feature again. I’d be willing to bet you have flexpay, and that’s why you had to pay in advance. Don’t blame T-Mo just because you don’t understand your own gadgets.
If TMo -really- wants this to be their premier WinMo machine, they *will* have 1700-3G on it. Otherwise, this is simply lipstick on a Palen.
TMo, although comparatively microscopic in footprint, has done 3G the best of the major carriers. Get the formula right before expanding unnecessary compromises across the country.
