AT&T: New iPhone will be hot, son

We can’t tell you where or who, but pretty high up in AT&T’s food chain, the following was reported to be said:

  • New iPhone announcement around mid-June (duh)
  • New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
  • U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
  • Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
  • They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
  • Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
  • The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

For clarification, the above is 100% confirmed.

Thanks, Stephanie!

3 common features found on cheapest phone in town, which Apple is not addressing until today.

1.) Contact forwarding (aka vCard forwarding)

2.) SMS forwarding (great for forwarding important msg to friends/workers instead of typing whole thing)

3.) Bluetooth file sharing with other devices (can understand music copyright, but shld allow for other files like wallpaper, picts & ringtones)

I get laughed at whenever friends ask me to do any of the above and my iphone can’t. I am dissappointed iPhone 3.0 still hasn’t address any of the above (from what I have read so far).

It is time to address the real issues. It better have a Word program that syncs with a PC, permits locating, editting and creating. The Internet Program better permit the capabilities of browsing saved files of all types to be used as attachments or uploading with email websites and any website calling for this action be it for personal webpages or albums or webstorage.
It better have a processor fast enough to permit adobe macro-media Flashdriver to play in or out of an internet window. It better permit switching between programs without having to close out.
It better permit blue tooth to be used for sharing files. It better have speakers/ a speaker that produces more volume.
All this better be out of the box!
It better permit syncing contacts from a cellular chip onto the phonebook.

I am an AT&T employee and I have not heard any of this, not even in my department where we hear about the newest and coolest before a lot of other people do, so don’t be disappointed of none of this turns out to be exactly correct, people!

All of you who want a keyboard:

    1. Never actually used the iPhone
    2. Have the motor skills of an infant
    3. Also want a stylus for the iPhone

I don’t think apple is dumb enough to go back and un-inovate the iPhone. So far they only have made improvements, but if they try and appease the neanderthals they need to make two versions. One with training wheels and one without.

Hmmm…let’s see. 1. I own the iTouch. I’ve also used my friends iPhone. The keyboard is CRAP. Yes, the fully extended landscape keyboard I am talking about.
    2. Not doubting my motor skills at all. The keyboard doesn’t register the taps at the speed that I type.
    3. Nope. There goes your highly stereotypical statement that all those you want a slide out keyboard want a stylus.
Wow…I don’t think it is possible for you to be more condescending. For that, I applaud you.

The one feature that Apple have hitherto refused to incorporate into the iPhone is a proper SATNAV application that people can actually use safely when driving .

TomTom were rumoured to have an app ready to go when the 3G iPhone came out but it never made it onto the phone . The GPS functionality on the 3G model is fine for people walking around but DANGEROUS for drivers who would need to take their eyes off the road and squint at tiny directions on a small screen with no audible directions available .

I never bothered to upgrade to the 3G model because of the lack of this facility and just kept using my original iPhone – which is out of contract next month (May) .

If there’s no SatNav in the new model then I’ll be looking elsewhere for my next phone .

    Ron says:

People are saying like “IT BETTER NOT HAVE A KEYBOARD!” Well if it did im sure it would still have the capability to type on the screen, it will always be a touch screen phone. The keyboard would optimize typing, but by no means would it make sense to assume it would be mandatory to use.

Any of you who want a “slider” keyboard keep using your cheap “slider” phone Apple doesn’t give a crap about you. What you need to think about is will the new iphone have any insurance for liquid damage. If not I say again keep using your cheap yet insurable phone. AppleCare does not protect against liquid damage. So if you get an iPhone and it starts acting funny don’t give the genius at the genius bar a bunch of crap contact Apple a yell at them cause the Genius is only the messenger, besides if I were the genius helping you and you went off on me I would break your face and lose my job

The fact that the iPhones are only touchscreen is pretty much the Biggest reason why I have not purchased one. Even if they made two identical versions, with 1 being touch and 1 having a slide out qwerty, I think they would just kill anyone else out. As a 22 y.o. male I see whats cool and compatible with everything, and thats obviously the iPhone, but the thing I want the most is a damn physical keyboard!

It’s obvious that the iPhone haters are individuals that don’t have one. I also can’t understand why anyone would want the iphone to have a slide out keyboard. The iphone has a full sized QWERTY touch keyboard that doesn’t take up space, doesn’t make the phone bulky, and pops up “ONLY” when you need to type. And on top of that, I believe it’s actually a larger keyboard than the majority of other phones with slide out keyboards. I’ve had the treo, the blackberry, and now the iphone, and from experience I can say that the iphone outranks all of them. Not only can the iphone do everything that the BB does, it has so many more features and apps than the BB to keep you entertained when you’re not doing your business stuff on it. And now when this 3.0 software comes out, it’s only going to make it that much better.

As soon as a keyboard slides out of ANY phone, the game is LOST. Can you say, AWKWARD? Perfect the virtual keyboard is the way to go. And LANDSCAPE goes along way towards that, FINALLY! Hoping that the new iphone will sway me. I have been with Verizon SO long.

For anyone who says they need a keyboard. Use an iPhone for 1 month and you’ll find you can never go back to hard keys. I can type almost 40 wpm on my iPhone keyboard, the combination of multi touch and the smartest word guesser makes it better than hard keys. And jailbreak it if you want tactic feedback.
