BlackBerry Niagara 9630 hands on
One of our ninjas was nice enough to drop by the BGR offices with a gift. And ooooh baby, it’s a nice gift! We’re not going to beat around the bush — we’ll put this little bugger exactly where it belongs — a review will be coming. But for now, here’s some quick impressions followed by a couple more money shots:
- Best BlackBerry keyboard. Ever.
- Best BlackBerry speakers. Ever.
- Best screen. Ever. (It looks more like glass than crappy plastic)
- Best size/feel. Ever.
That was quick, no? Any questions?

ooo nicee
Can’t wait for the review
that was absolutely intuitive … i’m sold .
I want one! Come to Bell sooner than later please!!
so basicly its like the bold but in a curve size
what OS is it running? Is the OS buggy? Is this a specific vendor phone like sprint or verizon or just a demo?
Thanks BG. You are the best.
Me want.
Sprint better get this soon. I see all there money on the “Pre”. I believe its a great device but loyal blackberry customers need something. We(sprint) didnt get the bold, pearl flip, new curve, or storm. Cmon Sprint!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I have a question.. “WHEN?”. Not even getting hopes up since every good BB release is averaging what.. 6-9 months AFTER the expected release? People were talking about an ATT 8900 last April..
its going to verizon!!!!!
I still love the Bold the only thing it’s missing is a 3.2 mega pixel camera!
That’s EXACTLY what I wanted to hear BG! Now the real question is did your ninja have any release dates?
Looks like RIM split the design-hair just right with the one. If it’s good enough to convert Blackberry enterprise users from another carrier is the *real* question.
World-phone, right? Quad-band GSM/Tri-band HSPA?
i am sure single band hspa… NO north america bands. only the 2100 MHz World Band
yes its def a world device.
And yes, it looks awesome. Nice work BG!
Cant wait !
Its coming to verizon. Im not sure whether to get the niagara 9630 although this is a bold but in a curve 8900 size which is a plus for me and many other Blackberry users. Big things come in small packages. The storm is getting better with its updates and its approaching an official OS when verizon decides to get off their ass. but Im going to wait for the niagara reviews.
The storm is going to get better with its updates but its Storm 50% – Niagara 50%
@dave
You’d be correct, sir. Think of the hardware as an identical setup to the Storm — quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, single band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only), 1X/EVDO CDMA.
Oh yes that’s it! When this is released and I like how it feels and plays, I’m switching to Verizon immediately… ok, maybe not right away but very strong potential.
Cannot wait for the review!!!
Need the thickness shot. Oh and WiFi conformation? Last I heard it was no.
Thanks BGR! Now send it on over to my place once you’re done with it.
BGR is slacking! Check out the hands on review from Crackberry days ago…..

That sure is a beauty, wonder if Boub and Brems will get off the wallet and spring for this sucker
BG,
Is the keyboard and screen significantly better than it’s Bold/Curve2 counterparts? I haven’t been this excited to read a BB review THANKS!!
@Ben
How it looks (like a mash-up between the 8900 and Bold) is how it is. Really defined keys that aren’t clackity but aren’t mushy.
Really love the keyboard. Curve 8900 was a little too cramped for me.
If only this had Wi-Fi…
I wantses it.
