Pandora for BlackBerry finally launches

BlackBerry users rejoice, Pandora has finally released v1 of it’s custom internet radio streaming application this morning and long story short, it’s everything we’ve been waiting for. It’s… About… Time! We tested the app out on a Bold via AT&T 3G and it worked perfectly — no hiccups and no pauses or stutters. We also tested the various basic functionality such as song skipping, giving a song a thumb’s up or thumb’s down, pausing and creating a new station. Everything worked as it should, though skipping to the next track often took a tad longer than we would have liked. The fact that’s our biggest complaint should give you a pretty good idea of how happy we were with the app though. There’s some more popular Pandora functionality packed in of course, such as the ability to bookmark a song or artist, but we trailed off into a state of bliss before we could get into all that. At this point, after only a short time with the app, we would definitely call it the greatest thing to happen to music on a BlackBerry since, well, music on a BlackBerry. There is some bad news however… No (official) T-Mobile love and no support for the Storm for the time being. Ouch. If you’re a Pandora user with a non-T-Mobile ‘Berry though, hit the read link or go to pandora.com from your mobile browser and get streaming.

For those who have not received your text message regarding Pandora. You can download pandora straight from the site from your mobile web. I have verizon curve and it is working just fine. just make sure your firewall is turned off to access music

You’re probably running OS 4.5 rather than an older 4.2 or prior version. Slacker had the same issues, requiring 4.3 or above to work properly. Newer OS probably solves the issue and they made some assumptions.

Had the same problem this morning on my Verizon 8330. Had to have Pandora send the text messages 3 times….but the 3rd time was a charm. Working perfectly now!

Work flawlessly on the 8330 Curve with Sprint. It is pretty quick, takes about 2-4 seconds to change songs.

why would a curve 8330 be supported and not my 8830. both are running os 4.5 (and not a beta os). also, why a verizon 8330 and not a sprint 8330? same exact devices, same os. I dont know if that is in fact the case, but that is what the pandora website says.

I’ve been waiting for this! Audio is very smooth even over EDGE. I just hope they fix the lag when skipping tracks though. When you first load the app, it loads all your stations. Neat!

    Downloaded onto my Bold.

However now my iPhone doesn’t work…probably cause I’m logged in on my Bold.+1 for self tech support :)

Using it on my att 8110 and its awesome. Blows slacker away. Slacker could barely play it would go for 10-15 seconds then buffer for 25-30 then repeat. No problems whatsoever with pandora. Changing songs takes about 20 seconds but atleast it plays

I’ve been seeing a consistent 3 seconds between songs on VZW 8330. Found an odd issue that doesn’t happen every time-when I get a text or email alert the program gets “stuck” and I can’t continue the song. I have to move on to the next track. Its happened about 75% of the time so far. I will be using this app a lot. I never fell in love with Slacker and deleted it soon after getting it.

To correct error message: “Could not stream music. Please check network availability.” Go to Options/Advanced Options/Applications, press the blackberry menu button on pandora, then select “Edit Permissions” set all to “Allow” rather than prompt, deny or custom. do the same for Browser. Thanks to firstorbit84 for posting this in the Crackberry forum!

T-Mobile is great since you can use it over WiFI and Edge works just fine with Slacker Radio, Flycast and even Radio Companion.

I will take T-Mobile with Wifi any day over those other networks. I had Verizon and I switched.

The other big advantage is that you can choose your own Navigation software, I use Nav4All and its free and works great. You have to pay about 10 bucks extra with the other carriers.
