Pandora for BlackBerry finally launches

BlackBerry users rejoice, Pandora has finally released v1 of it’s custom internet radio streaming application this morning and long story short, it’s everything we’ve been waiting for. It’s… About… Time! We tested the app out on a Bold via AT&T 3G and it worked perfectly — no hiccups and no pauses or stutters. We also tested the various basic functionality such as song skipping, giving a song a thumb’s up or thumb’s down, pausing and creating a new station. Everything worked as it should, though skipping to the next track often took a tad longer than we would have liked. The fact that’s our biggest complaint should give you a pretty good idea of how happy we were with the app though. There’s some more popular Pandora functionality packed in of course, such as the ability to bookmark a song or artist, but we trailed off into a state of bliss before we could get into all that. At this point, after only a short time with the app, we would definitely call it the greatest thing to happen to music on a BlackBerry since, well, music on a BlackBerry. There is some bad news however… No (official) T-Mobile love and no support for the Storm for the time being. Ouch. If you’re a Pandora user with a non-T-Mobile ‘Berry though, hit the read link or go to pandora.com from your mobile browser and get streaming.

This is great. I wonder how this will affect pay per use services like Verizon’s VCAST. Maybe thats why no Storm support yet. But this is the best thing ever on my Curve!!!

Works well. I like the way you can still use other apps while listening, unlike Moodio, which stops sound if not the main app on screen. Minor annoyance-i cannot adjust the volume unless Pandora is the main app on the screen. No biggie, just jump over with app switcher and make my change. It would be nice if there was a way to allow volume change without needing to bring the app up front. Sound quality was good, wish it had a bit more treble. I didn’t see any way to adjust the sound other than volume. No stuttering or delays, using an 8330 on VZW in Philly area.

Wonder why it won’t work on an 8900? You don’t need 3g when you have wifi connected. I actually find Slacker to work really well on this device when using UMA.

Bah! Not yet available in Canada. Any word on when that might happen? (fingers crossed, baited breath).

As a sidenote, it’s maddening that these little tidbits aren’t made obvious before downloading/installing the app. I wonder if there’s any way for them (and others) to test location/carrier validity before download/install?

Another IPhone App crosses over? Sounds like you love your apples too much. As first, the pandora app was more accessible considering there is only phone it had to be developed for, as for blackberry, there are several phones it had to be developed for, each with different version of the os.

So I suggest you hold your tongue if you’re going to ploy a remark that apple was the first and blah blah blah blah

It won’t work on my Pearl 8130 (Verizon). Downloaded and installed the app just fine. Then when I try to run it, it begins to load one of my stations, and I get an error message “Could not stream music. Please check network availability.” Does anybody know how I could fix this???
