Comments on: HTC Maple to launch at CTIA?

The Maple is the follower of the Cavalier and that’s about all that we officially know. The handset is said to sport a user-friendlier keyboard, a trackball and an “Inner Circle” feature which will improve the way you communicate with your closest friends depending on the time of day and day of the week. We’ll be back to check this phone when official details will be available. Until then you have time to figure out if you want an HTC Windows Mobile QWERTY handset like the Maple or you’re more of a Berry kind of person.

Am I the only one who likes this phone? My corporation runs MS Exchange servers, so unless I opt for a gigantor slider, this is the only Windows Mobile QWERTY phone out there. Ugly it may be, but I need 1) Windows and 2) as small as possible with a keyboard for Email.

Thus. The Maple.

Heck, people buy Toyota Camrys by the gajillions and drink Budweiser. Why not the Maple?

Yeah RIM didn’t invent the trackball as Patrick said. The SK3 was the first, and several months before the Pearl. RIM probably has no desire to be in any more patent infringement cases, regardless of which side they are on.
That said, yes the keys are not hot but I would say at least functional. Who knows what carrier this will turn up on though. Might not even land in the US. Once again the blogosphere is ablaze with the sound of panties bunching up for no reason. If only scientists could some how harness the intense power of internet whining and negativity and make it a renewable energy source……

Looks good, except for Windows Mobile. Loved my Dash for about 2 hrs and then it bogged down under the weight of its operating system. Blech. I’ll stick with my BB.

I’ve been a huge HTC fan for many years and even got rid of my BlackBerry Curve for another HTC device. I must say the Maple reeks of epic fail.

It looks terrible from an aesthetic standpoint, but from a solely usability standpoint it looks great… That keyboard looks like it would be a huge step up from say, the Palm Centro, which I suppose is the kind of device this thing is aimed against?

If this has the Tmo USA 3g bands, this will be a hit. It will be a worthy successor to the Dash. People don’t tend to realize how comfortabe the Dash is. I have a Fuze, kaiser, iPhone, Blackjack and Dash. I use the Fuze and my wife chose the Dash over all the others. Its a great design – small, yet comfortable to use, thin, and it just works! I admit that even though i love my Fuze and spend more time on XDA than I should, the Dash will always have a special place in my heart. When you use it – it just … fits.

looks like a decent smart phone, i used to have a dash and loved it. the smaller size really is a big plus. these days, its nice to have a smaller windows device with a full qwerty keyboard. i like the new maple. Using a track ball is cool too.

Not bad, I’m sure the on contract price from t-mo(if it does end up there) will be good. All the hate up in the comments, just calm down. Everyone except the guy who said it has Winmo so it will suck. You should go away. Do you go on every post concerning Winmo phones? Trolls need to find something better to do.

If you compare the trackball of the G1, the Curve (or any other BB with a trackball) and the Maple, you’ll see how the Maple and BB’s have a near identical design. The G1’s is just sort of stuck on the phone where as the Maple and BB in their own crater with a while ring surrounding a pale semi-translucent ball. I think the only thing the Maple is missing would be the chrome ring.

That’s one of the ugliest phones I’ve ever seen. Even though I have no intention of buying it, I still hope T-Mobile doesn’t pick it up. I didn’t have the Dash either, but I would still be embarrassed if this were it’s successor. It looks like one of those dollar store calculators with the gargantuan buttons.

It would be nice if it came to T-Mobile, but I’d have to see some nice reviews before commiting to a non-touchscreen windows mobile. Plus, it’s not that nice looking.

I would pick this up in a quick second. I have the dash and love it to death. Not to mention the keyboard looks like a dream to use. Hopefully the keyboard will be a dream to use.
