Are you sure , u dont have to return the device? I already have one legit iphone with contract but want to buy another as a gift for someone and send it out of country! So i need to be sure there rent any other charges or if they wont ask me to return the phone after 30 days….???? Can anyone reply soon please

Err, get your facts straight before you post with such certainty. You can buy and iPhone with a new line of contract, after 30 days cancel the line and pay the Early Termination Fee of $200, at this point the phone is yours, proceed to unlock it with the many tools available online, put a T-mobile simcard on it and it will work perfectly.

I thought you couldn’t cancel your plan/account w/o first returning the phone. Isn’t that how they were regulating this?

The $300 dollar price you are looking at is most probably a phone purchase that requires a contract (most likely a 2 year contract) which is why it is much cheaper. You are getting a discount for signing a contract over a specific amount of time.

I have 8 months left on exicting contract. Why won’t they let me buy lower priced Iphone if I add a data plan to remainder of term and add 2 more years on my contract? It sounds stupid to me that that isn’t a good deal for ATT.
They get a two year contract plus existing 8 months.
They get a data plan added to my 8 months they didn’t have before.
But they apparently say NO to that.

OK, so $599.99 for and 8GB iPhone, I don’t get it. I can buy one for 199.00 on contract, pay the 175.00 early termination fee and if you cancel within 3 days they won’t keep the $35.00 activation fee so $199.00 + $175.00 is $374.00. Why would anyone pay $599.00?

First of all at&t has a contract with Apple for the next three years for exclusive rights to the iphone, so what is the point of buying one and then not getting any service on it? It won’t WORK on another carrier and won’t be supported as it should.
Second, the no committment pricing is for Customers who do indeed drop their device or have the dog chew it up and can’t qualify for another iphone as an upgrade option.
Thirdly, the ppt shown here is incorrect and should most likely be taken off the site, it only causes consumer confusion.
I see several posts here from COR store reps and now I feel sorry for them when they have a consumer come in looking for this device with the impression they can just outright buy it and take it elsewhere. Sorry gang not for another three years will Apple release this for support elsewhere. It happens with ALL carriers and ALL carriers have a catch, it’s the way of the world of telecommunications and business. Deal with it or don’t buy it your choice!

Data is still required on all iPhones, commitment or not. ATT scans their network, even if you use a different SIM (such as a gophone), and then will send you a text message giving you the “opportunity” to add data if they detect your iPhone. If you don’t do it yourself, they will do it for you. Must have data. I think it’s stupid and illegal, but it’s what they do.

ok…if you were to buy an iphone 3g at the 199upgrade price and then after a few months cancel the line…the phone would cease to work. Even with a diff. sim card, the phone would be able to make calls but u would have no access to the internet except in wifi areas. Seems like an awful lot of trouble and money to get a phone and then knowingly make it less functional. If your a cheap a$$ then go to verizon. They give you free (crappy) phones.

Also, someone asked if at&t provides ondemand phone unlocks…

you must be joking….why the hell would at&t waste their time and money so that you could cancel the contract and use with another provider. i mean, seriously.

And, for ppl bitching about the $30 data plan…would u like to see how much your bill would be without the data plan..haha….you would then be charged .01 cents for every gb of data transfered. This would add up to hundreds maybe thousands of bucks at the end of the month. I’ll take $30 anyday.

att does not offer unlock codes for the devices we sell. you can find them online or from the manufacturer. you forget one major point, the phone carriers do not sell phones, we sell service. so its up to you to unlock your phone.
