Iphone not a smartphone, hmmm it has it’s own operating system and does not require WAP gateways to communicate on the internet, must be a really intellegent phone.

yup, just got my iphone stolen too and people have been talking about lo-jack… but then i did hear about the mobile me… so how exactly does it work… once i have a mobile me account and then select this option on the phone ‘find my iphone’ ..then what?

I currently have Beta 3.0 5. A few months ago i installed an app to track my phone and lock it remotelly. One day i started noticing fast drainage of my battery. Sudently i realized that it started happening after i’ve installed that app. What was happening was that my phone was sending constantly a beacon reporting the gps cordinates and that was wasting my battery realy fast as matter of fact withing 2 hours. I believe this new feature will activate a beacon that reports gps codinates and that will consume alot of battery

How about being the first touch screen? The first updatable phone? The incredible browser, email, iPod and phone applications? Let’s be realistic, there is not a reasonibly priced phone that is better then the Iphone. It can’t be the best at everything, but apple sure is trying. You try keeping up with the iPhone, tell me how that goes.

Doubtful. What are you gonna track it with? A special bluetooth device you buy from apple…..dude just read it says this allows you to track your phone at me.com….me.com is not bluetooth.

First off, the iPhone was made before the touch. So quit your bitching that it’s an iPod. And how is it not a smartphone? I’m curious what smartphone you use? And no one on here is pretending that anything in 3.0 is ground breaking. We are simply excited to see some new features. And I have to say that the iPhone can do a lot more then other phones can. Why else is everyone cranking out phones that are similar, but still fall short? Even BB tried. They sure as hell have done some thing right to sell 13.7 million in less then 2 years.

in response to “what can the iphone do that other phones have been doing for ages cant” uuh has a touch screen that doesnt make veins in your head pulse when attempting to use the device. dont gimme winmo has, it hasnt dont care what handset, what graphics from a spectrum application you can run to try and help it does’nt ive had one it sucked, and dont get me started on active sync. oh and the clock and calendar in winmo has been the same since the early 90’s, i had a dx2 50 486 then, it was ugly, but i upgraded to 8mb of ram and i could with some autoexec.bat fiddling make it run wing commander 3, which sucked, but not as much as winmo.

God forbid you left “Location Services” set to OFF before you lost it. I wonder if this new feature will turn the service on remotely to aid you in finding your phone. And, i’m hoping it’s not solely GPS-based, like so they can use cell towers triangulation to find it. (sorry if I used the wrong term on the cell towers thing, but i’m sure someone will know what i’m talking about and correct me.)

lmao at the delusional itards.. the iphone is an ipod, a 2003 nokia phone, a 1990 somthin palm pilot, and a knock off psp, with a good internet browser.. its not a smart phone.. please stop pretending that when apple makes a feature thats years old that its some ground breaking event.. the funniest part is jail broken iphones have had a few of these so called new features for a while.. what can the iphone do that no other phone can besides buy crap from apple and overcharge for spotty data..

Nokia has a remote lock feature where basically you send your phone a text message with a key word and the phone locks down. Also when you hard reset the phone the SIM PIN and lock code remain the same so for me thats not bad.

What iphone needs is a mobile lock application where you can lock individual apps. I have something like this for my E71…advanced device locks…with this you could then lock the mobileme app and require a password to enter that portion of the phone regardless of what you wanted to change.

I have the beta on my iPhone and I don’t see anything on my me.com portal to make use of the “Find my iPhone” feature.

Would be good for parents like myself. The only thing I don’t want is the requirement for a data plan. That’s another $30 per month! I want to be able to send a hidden SMS to my daughter’s phone and the phone will SMS back with the last GPS coordinates it polled – that doesn’t require any data, just an SMS plan if you even text that much.

I would assume it is for use in conjuction with MM calendars. Remember, the PRE is supposed to use the GPS to tell you when you are going to be late for a meeting and when you need to leave for a meeting. Pre still sucks.

There’s a simple solution in a program called “iLocalis” It can track your phone even if the thief changes the sim. You can send a a text message to the phone and it will call you back with the new owner’s phone number. It’s the only program I’ve found that runs in the background which allows you to remove the main program but leave the daemon leaving the new owner unaware that they’re being tracked. Requires jailbreak and small donation for one year service. I’m not affiliated with the owner or company. It’s just the only program of it’s kind that I know of that actually works.

Looks like a new way to cyber-stalk someone…creeepy. It’s a neat idea if your phone gets stolen but at the same time could be a huge invasion of privacy. It would be nicer if there was something on MM to remotely enable the “find my iphone” so if it IS stolen, you dont need to flick a little switch on the phone beforehand in order to find it.

I really don’t think there are too many other options here…

It “enables the Find My iPhone service.” Time will tell, but even though it can be enabled on the device, there is nothing server-side (on MobileMe.com) yet.

Agree. I flicked it on and off and unfortunately it did not ask/require me to enter my passcode to disable it.
