AT&T offering refurbished 16GB iPhone 3Gs for $149?

We just got a heads up that AT&T stores in the NY/NJ region are getting stock of Refurbished 16GB iPhone 3Gs and, yes, the price tag is only $149 with a 2-year contract. The information looks legit, but since this is a new tipster, we’re working to cross-confirm this! As far as terms and conditions go… you must be doing a new activation (new line), the refurbs are not available for upgrades. Additionally, they are limited to one per customer. One more screen cap after the break!

Getting rid of phones for new ones? MAYBE. Considering the unveiling of OS 3.0 tomorrow… which would mean a possibility of new hardware in June/July. I mean, if Apple continues its pattern of software/hardware for the iPhone…

Are these refurbished by Apple or just repackaged returns?

Just because it’s a refurb doesn’t mean it was broke..some of these phones could be from people who bought them and returned them because they didn’t like them

Yeah i’m guessing this is because the third generation of the iPhone is probably going to be released sometime this summer. I’d say within 3 to 4 months time we’ll have a new one. Can’t wait ! :)

I can vouch that we sent all 25 of our 3G iPhones back as they do not meeting pending encryption data regulations in our state. I would imagine at&t is getting slammed with similar business feedback and from our chats with Apple they could care less as they are doing well with consumer sales.

@Frank: I think you failed when you decided to use an iPhone as a reliable business device – obviously not their target market.

ATT refurbs are just reboxed returns. I bought one a few weeks ago and couldnt hear out of the phones earpiece. When I put the serial number online in the apple warranty page, the warranty date was from 2 months ago. Probably when it was originally purchased and activated.

I took the phone to the genius bar and they swapped it for a LEGIT refurb.

Well aware of that, we have a number of the executive set that get whatever they want so it was actually great to have our security / compliance people inform them they could no longer use the iPhone and hand them a BB Bold.

Buyer beware! I bought an ipod 3rd gen refurb over christmas. Never ran even a day without crashing. Had to return and demand a replacement. They wanted to fix unit, but I refused; it was DOA. They gave me a new one, so I guess even the repair shop realized it was a lost cause.

I’d like to know which stores have these too. I just upgraded to a refurb 8gb over the web for $99 yesterday and would definitely pay $50 extra for 16gb. :)

Thanks for the tips. I bought my 16gb refurbished iphone for $149 at NYC AT&T store (1330 AVENUE OF THE AMERICAS).

The only thing is they only have the black one and not the white iphone. Everything works fine so far and I think it’s a pretty good deal!=)
