Microsoft issues takedown notices, squashes popular Windows 6.5 cooked ROM
All you HTC Raphael fans out there who have been enjoying a pre-release version of Windows Mobile 6.5, it looks like the party may be over. Microsoft has put the pressure on XDA developers and they have withdrawn the links to the popular Windows 6.5 ROM crafted by Da_G. All download links, both in the original post and subsequent posts, have been removed. Thankfully, the forum has not been locked or shut down. These takedown notices however, may not be confined to just this single ROM as others who are mirroring similar ROMs have reported receiving takedown notices as well. We suppose it was only a matter of time before Microsoft put the brakes on the public porting of Windows Mobile 6.5 — at least we enjoyed it while it lasted.

But really though, does anyone else have a gripe about the honeycome today screen? It just looks like the today screen would be massive with giant polygons floating around. The iPhone did it right with the list of icons, Samsung and others took up on it as well. If not just give us a basic XP style desktop, a couple icons and an all functioning start button.

A day late and a dollar short. Other news sites are saying this is actually a stunt being performed by some individual and not Microsoft. Check out Pocketnow.com and engadget.com for more info.

I enjoy winmo 6.5 way much and love cooked ROMs. Can’t wait for some sweet out of box action. Should this take down be true, MS is hecka jankee. Pff* Let us have our fun MS, jeez…

Sorry but I am not excited about using any phone related Microsoft products! As soon as the Palm Pre comes out I’m planning on running over my Touch with a truck… Then maybe melting every single piece until there is absolutely nothing left! Windows Mobile is junk!! I’m just sayin’
