Samsung announces the sleek and slim Lucido

Samsung announced on Friday the latest addition to its line of candy bar feature phones. The Lucido, Italian for sleek, is the replacement for the Samsung U800 and sports many of the features of the Tocco Ultra in a slightly more subdued design. The Lucido retains the brushed metal look of the U800 and adds on the following features:

  • 2.2-inch AMOLED display
  • a-GPS (with built-in Google Maps)
  • High-speed 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity
  • Media player
  • FM radio
  • up to 8GB of storage
  • 5 megapixel camera with anti-blur, face detection and smile capture

Look for this phone to hit the market sometime in April, though pricing has not yet been revealed.

@ PandaBarr- Let us hope! Should lead to a wider range of quality devices or at least I would think.

Looks very nice ! And the features are awesome too. Brushed metal finish ftw! Too bad I’ll never get this though cause there’s no QWERTY :(

AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode. Basically, just another variant of the ever popular modern day LED display. AMOLED’s are very thin and bright, mind you. They also don’t need a backlight. :)

@MikeM: Certainly looks like a nice contender for weekend duty, doesn’t it? Nice specs and a solid hardware design gives this thing a chance in the real world.

I’d like to see a lateral profile of it. That rear view gives the appearance that the cam may extend outward a bit. If so, that could be a bit of a concern.

    No prob mk ! :)

and @ backbeat, yeah, I think this phone really does have a fighting chance out there. Kinda sets it apart from all the generic cookie cutter phones out today. And, yeah I was concerned about that as well, that the camera part might protrude from the slim profile of the phone. Sorta take away from the thin aspect of the phone but oh well, you can’t have it all ! :P

Its nice the new screens are starting to make their way towards mainstream. Nokia has had the N series using them, but those are hardly considered your average phone. The cam is nice, but i feel like there should be a small protective sliding lens.. The original n95 had it right.

no more samsungs for me, bought u700 the day it launched (without any contract), paid quite a lot. It’s made of cheap materials, year passed, whole surface fucked up.

my siemes sxg75 looks like new 5-6y after heavy usage. HTC S730 no issues either.
