Nokia “Piranha” and a handful of other handsets reportedly headed to AT&T

AT&T customers, it looks like you’re in for quite a few sexy new phones over the next few months if this new report ends up panning out. Here’s what we’re looking at according to a report from the boys over at Engadget Mobile:

  • Nokia Piranha, March 24th – Internal codename, a “thin smartphone with a touchscreen”. If true, it will have to be the 5800 XpressMusic we imagine, but we find it highly unlikely. The other, more likely possibility: The tipster is confused and it’s the E71x which will reportedly follow at Best Buy on April 1st.
  • Samsung Propel Pro, March 19th
  • Samsung Impression, March 26th – Touchscreen slider, 3 megapixel camera
  • LG Xenon, April 9th
  • LG Neon, May 9th
  • Samsung “BJ 2″, May 9th – Possibly the Blackjack 3, though that codename is extremely odd considering the existence of the already-available Blackjack 2.
  • Sony Ericsson C905, June 9th

I don’t need a smartphone, so if ATT doesn’t realize S60 is ’smart’ I’m gonna have a tough decision between E71 and one of the touchscreen sliders coming up at renewal time.

If you check out the screen shots fo the menu system on the att e71x it has the “dumbphone” menu system. Hopefully we can all take advantage of the $15 data unlimited, $10 if you have unlimited messaging.

I haven’t played with the SE c905, but I’m highly interested in it. I really REALLY want to like Sony Ericsson phones, but so far it’s been no dice.

If they didn’t confuse the touchscreen with the e71x, I’m excited about that. I’m a HUGE Nokia fanboy so, yea.

Who ever was talking about the palm pre it will be delayed. My friend was the relationship manager with a contract between Sprint and Flextronics which is now a business account with over 2500 phones on it, because of this we now get insider information and it confirmed that the pre will defintely be delayed… I hope Sprint doesnt cause palm to pre-maturly die. lol sorry for the phone pun

    DigDug says:

@David, if the Pre was “definitely” going to be delayed, PALM would have filed a disclosure document with the SEC because the Pre will be material to their business continuity, and in view of the fact that PALM has stated many many times it will be released during first half of ‘09. If this turns out not to be true, and PALM does not disclose such a material change to the SEC, their goose is cooked. As you know from recent filings, PALM is very “SEC aware” and thus I seriously doubt your position.

@TRV$: The $15 data plan [MediaNet?] isn’t available to -new- smartphone customers any longer, is it? Still available to existing smartphone customers to switch to? I’ve not seen it listed as an option in some time.

    backbeat says:

^Nevermind, TRV$. Just went thru the dumbphone selection process and found my own answer. AT&T just renamed MediaNet to ‘Data Unlimited’. Hopefully, you’re right about getting the e71x with it. Have to wonder if those who got the e71 unlocked are using the same AT&T plan. That would certainly prove it one way or the other.
