Mystery HTC phone gets GSM certification, headed for Verizon Wireless?
Oooo a mystery… A new HTC handset with the model number XV6175 received GSM certification from the Global Certification Forum and it has left the blogosphere abuzz. The first thing we notice of couse is the XV prefix, which is generally reserved for Verizon Wireless. This, coupled with the lack of UMTS/HSDPA suggests the phone may be a dual CDMA/GSM world phone, as is currently the direction VZW seems to want to head with all of its smartphones. From the leaked 2009 HTC lineup, eligible candidates for this mystery phone include the HTC Twin which is rumored to be a CDMA/GSM hybrid phone, though the target carrier is unknown and not presumed to be Verizon Wireless. The Whitestone W is thought to be multimedia-centric Verizon phone with both CDMA and GSM support, making it a definite possibility for this mystery phone. Last but not least is the HTC Cedar, a low end Windows Mobile Standard device. The low model number of 6175 would fall in line with this being a Windows Mobile standard phone, placing it below the Windows Mobile professional HTC XV6900 (Touch) and the XV6850 (Touch Pro). The Cedar has not been rumored to be a world phone but HTC certainly may have a few surprises left up its sleeve for us in 2009.

Umm, XV isnt usually verizon unless i have missed something recently… now if it were VX, you may be on to something…
HTC Magic?
i was looking at the xv and thinking VX for LG, my bad…but still, with the xx75 moniker, looks like non-vzw to me.
Figures, news of a new HTC phone drops the day after I pick up the Omnia. But after reading the info it does sound like it’ll be more of an entry level smart phone. Oh and if anyone was interested, jumping from Alltel 6800 to VZW Omnia = Good Move on my part.
As GCF doesn’t confirm 3G HSPA or EVDO, I would think about HTC Twin: a CDMA+GSM/GPRS/EDGE variation of the new HTC Touch Cruise (Iolite). Maybe the XV xxx5 code means a variation about the original one.
hope its the whitestone
How beautiful it would be if the next HTC built smartphone destined for Verizon were the Treo Pro!!!!!!!
here’s wishful thinking, i hope it’s the touch pro 2!!!
I hope it’s not ugly like the last HTC VZW phone.
OH, VZW itself will has GSM/EDGE & CDMA?
could be a verizon world edition..
I know that VX sounds like it would be the prefix on Verizon models, but you have missed something. XV is indicative of Verizon models (i.e. XV6700, XV6800, XV6850, XV6900, etc.). Verizon issues these model numbers to all HTC smartphones that they put out, in place of the name branded by HTC. May sound backwards, but if there’s an XV in front, then Verizon has it.
Amen!!!
