iTunes 8.1 is better, faster, stronger and now available

It’s time to get to upgrading, folks, because the new version of iTunes promises to be faster and includes a new set of features. The Genius feature now supports movies and TV shows beyond just music, CDs can be imported at a much higher quality and the overall experience is much faster. That means when you’re syncing your iPod or iPhone, browsing through playlists or shopping in the iTunes store, the improved speeds will make the experience more rich and pleasant – especially with how impatient many of us can be. Oh and if you’re planning on grabbing a new 4GB iPod Shuffle, iTunes 8.1 is required. You don’t need us to tell you what to do next, but just in case, go ahead and download it already!

I don’t understand this post. What is the point in regurgitating what any of us can read on Apple’s own website. Why not give a review with substantive information?

In case you haven’t noticed, that’s what blogs do. They condense all different stories into one convenient website so that people don’t have to go to twenty different websites. If you don’t like that, don’t come back!

No, regurgitating is what fan-boys do. Genius does nothing but crash windows machines and nothing about iTunes has EVER been quick. I’ll give them easy, but surely not quick. Why is it BG that Apple can never do no wrong. If RIM had named the next version 8.1 you’d comment “how original”
CDs can be imported at a much higher quality.. OH BOY, if you’re that concerned with sound quality, listen to the CD itself. How exactly does increased speed make the experience richer? It’s about time they had the store actually function at a reasonable speed. I’d call it functional now, not richer. Plus, no bashing “1 infinate loop” for strong-arming people into the new version if they buy the new 4gb apple memory stick, uh, I mean shuffle. If another manufacturer (MS) made someone upgrade windows media player with a product, you’d be all over it.
Please oh please, just finally admit that apple is as fallable as the rest of these companies. They all try and fail all the time.

Wow am loving this DJ request feature, yep iTunes just became my default player again. Imagine just going to anywhere music is playing and being able to view the entire music catalog and being able to vote songs up on a list and being able to request songs to play, i find it cool, it’s like every time i walk into my local restaurant they’re playing the Bee Gees, not that they’re bad or anything but damn every time.

The whole “CDs can be imported at higher quality” is frankly wrong.

You could always import at that quality. You could always import at a higher quality, you still can, the only thing that’s changed is apple now is pointing out that its “iTunes plus” quality.

    @ Kimberly:
This version is compatible with Vista 64-bit, and iTunes has been compatible with Vista 32 and 64-bit since they were released.

If you’re having issues with it, check out this website: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

I’ve been using iTunes on my Vista 64-bit desktop since it was in beta and has worked just fine with no serious issues; only performance issue but that’s because Apple doesn’t really care too much about Windows users experience with Apple applications.

If you hate Apple products and software, stop using them. Apple does have competitors. But please stop crying about how they constantly update their products. I am sorry MS can’t compete with this company. No, I meant don’t want to compete. MS puts profits over innovation. This is why their technology is always years behind apple and other tech companies. They wait to see what someone else creates, then they copy it or steal it, to claim it as their own.

I am not saying Apple is perfect. No company is. But you have to give them credit for trying to push the technology envelope. What is hard, they make simple. What is confusing, they make clear. Yes I am a fanboy. They have made using technology fun and exciting. I will not apologize for that and neither should Apple.

The majorty of people who openly “hate” Apple have probably never used half the stuff they bash. Additionally they probably enjoy their computers crashing frequenty and have no desire for something that is reliable.

^Ya just gotta laugh your ass off at those who, so easily, marry their [platform / carrier / manufacturer] and then make such public fools of themselves in the process. One day they will find Zen and realize it doesn’t come with, nor require, a brand-name. ;)

Glad to see 8.1 finally arrive. Time to move from my ancient mp3 and try out an iPod now that I’m finally moving to a new laptop.

I will give this new version a chance but I hate iTunes so much that I only use it when I need to (iPhone sync).

Up until I used my friends mac, the only thing I knew of apple was their crummy iTunes and quiktime, which would crash my PC alot. So obviously I didn’t get what the hype was about. That I think hurts apple, because alot of people form their opinions by their first impressions, and iTunes leaves a bad first impression. The iPhone (which I own and use) doesn’t fare all that much better because it crashes alot too. So while their notebooks are almost flawless, alot of their other products aren’t. But the fanboy nation doesn’t address that, and that maybe part of the problem.

I personally don’t care about companies, I just want a good product.

StevenGlansburg, I don’t really hate Apple at all. What I do hate, however, are people like you who drink the Kool-Aid.

As we all know, Macs never crash. Ever. Under any circumstances. That’s only PCs, am I right? My PC, which I reboot when I feel like it or when I run Windows Update, doesn’t crash. But according to your paradigm, that simply isn’t possible.

It must be interesting living in your world. I’d like to visit some time, if only briefly.

Hope this itunes update is really faster cuz browsing the menus of my ipod classic, filled with 47.5gb, is super slow in itunes 8.Does this mean there are new ipod touches in the works too? It would be hot if there were a 160gb touch.

Where’s the feature of finding the music that iTunes loses on its own? Which an Apple iTunes Dev Rep/TSR told me was on the way this time last year.

I’m tired of having to hunt down songs that I just listened to that mysteriously disappeared, which is sitting right next the song that is currently playing.

    Well, Apple?

    Andy Bernard says:

My understanding, Jeremiah, is that in addition to gathering and condensing news, a blog should also try to make the news its own in some way. A review, opinions, whatever. But posting what is essentially an advertisement for Apple is not why I have been coming to BGR 10/day for the last year. And I’m not arguing Apple fanboy stuff. I couldn’t give a crap. My only point is that when you post a piece of news, it should contain at least a minor original component. If this post had included blatant Apple bias, which I don’t think it does, aside from the “go download it!” bit, I would probably be happier with it, because at least it would’ve included an original thought. So yes, I have noticed what blogs do, and I don’t believe that this pos accomplished that. I’ve also noticed that you’re a tool bag.

Cover-flow in iTunes 8.1 is lightening fast!!! It is stunning. I have 10 gigs of music, and itunes takes less than 3 seconds to load all the album arts. Flick scrolling has also been improved.

Being openly Apple, I could be seeing/wanting to see things, but I am pretty sure surfing titles in AppleTV is considerably faster now. I have over 900 titles on my NAS served to my ATV with 8.1 and so far, it seems a good 100% jiffier.
