Samsung A877 spied, headed to AT&T?

Call this one unconfirmed at best, but word on the street puts a new Samsung QWERTY slider on AT&T shelves at the end of this month. Now, don’t get too excited as this puppy isn’t exactly the handset to end all handsets, but it is one of the best looking QWERTY feature phones we’ve seen heading to AT&T so consider our interest piqued. First and foremost, it’s not a smartphone — the A877 allegedly sports Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. What it lacks in brains however, it most certainly makes up for in brawn:

  • 3.2-inch WQVGA AMOLED touchscreen
  • Slide-out QWERTY and messaging shortcut button
  • 3 megapixel camera with geotagging
  • Telenav GPS Navigator
  • Full HTML browser
  • TouchWiz user interface
  • Quadband EDGE/GSM
  • Dual band HSDPA (1900 and 850)
  • Bluetooth, MP3 player

3.2-inch AMOLED display, 3G/3.5G, 3 megapixel camera… This is definitely going to be a desirable handset amongst messaging fanatics looking for some style to go with their blister-inducing thumb speed. The source of the rumor places the A877 on AT&T shelves for a March 29th release, though no pricing is specified for the time being.

Thanks, Erich

    anyways…

This is exactly what I’m looking for.. in a smartphone. Dammit, it was almost perfect. well, if it had wi-fi too. not that I need it, but it’d be nice to have it.

No smartphone but damn it has some pretty good specs for the crowd it intends to target…& seriously at&t there are some adults who also happen to text quite often so finally a phone not only geared to the tweeners, lol!!!

agreed! depending on the thickness of this phone, with it having HTML i could get by without my Q9h. I’d like to see a 3.5 headphone jack like on the eternity. but with a better mp3 interface.

at&t will crush any chance of this phone being what it could truly be because they will put crappy mobile email on it and do their funky java hack to make the gmail program useless.

I keep hearing non-smartphones that say they have full HTML browsers; maybe I’m just greedy, but when you say “Full HTML Browser” I always end up thinking about something equivalent to Opera Mobile. More often than not, it seems to be closer to PIE.

My interest in this phone would be a lot more piqued if I knew which side of the browser aisle it was going to fall on.

@orga, Full HTML BRowser means it isn’t limited to WAP sites. My 2 year old RAZR V3XX has a very capable opera browser builtin. Also most decent Sony Ericsson have very good Netfront browsers.

    @ Orga

The full HTML version of the standard ‘dumb-phone’ browser isn’t bad.

Opera seems to be picking up steam as a standard offering for smartphones, and it Does work on recent AT&T ‘dumb-phones’ like the Propel.

This is exactly what I needed! Except for it’s GSM and I need CDMA. Come on Big Red, what’s the deal? Do you WANT to get rid of customers who like good phones?
