If it’s only for the divested part of the former Altell, how many people is this supposed plan for? 30? Ah, who cares, AT&T BB unlimited rulezz…

Some Alltel customers will not become Verizon Wireless customers. Verizon had to divest (ie, sell off) a bunch of markets in order to get regulatory approval. These “divested” customers will remain Alltel until another company purchases those wireless assets. Several groups have shown interest in bidding for those assets but I am not sure how/when all of that will take place. Have not been following that part of it too closely.

I assumed most people that were familiar with the Smart Choice plans would know that they were for “Smart” phones. Probably should have mentioned it in my post. Thank you for pointing that out.

Also, thanks for the clarification on the data card limitation. I was not aware of that. Looks like it is USB only hardware for your broadband connection.

Oh and by the way, the $40 wireless data card is only being sold on the the Divested Alltel side. Also, Divested Alltel is using their EVDO Rev. O network and their newly developed Rev. A network. The roaming agreements that were established prior to the merger is still enacted. So, the Divested Alltel customers still can use Sprint’s EVDO network and Verizon’s EVDO networks too. True unlimted nationwide high speed data brought to the Divested Customers via Sprint, Verizon and Alltel.

Alltel and Verizon merged together, however where Verizon currently has a network they are required (by the Dept. of Justice) to divest the remaining Alltel network. Therefore, the remaining Alltel network exists in 22 states and has 2.2 million customers. Making it the 8th largest wireless company. This side of Alltel is being ran totally seperate from the Alltel/Verizon side, which is called Non-Divested. The Non-Divested side will be transitioned to Verizon signage in the next few months. Now the Divested Alltel side will be ran as Alltel for some time to come. Hopefully that helps understand the confusion.

Yeah verizon owns Alltel but maybe they are keeping it around in certain regions before it becomes big red and suffers a 30 dollar per month price increase. I guess having all those people following your phone around costs alot of money lol

I’ve spoken to an Alltel representative; this isn’t entirely accurate.

The “Smart Choice Packs” are for smart phones only. They’re offering a 500 minute a month plan with unlimited data for $69.

Prior you had to pay 59.99 for your phone plan and an additional 49.99 for the unlimited data package for a total of 109.98, basically saving $40.98 for the smallest of the smart choice packs.

Data cards broadband wireless not included.
