Motorola announces MC55 handsets

Yikes. Here at BGR, we’d like to think that the days of having to sacrifice looks and form to have a truly “business-oriented” handset are long over. Handsets like the Nokia E71 and HTC Touch Pro are fine examples of sexy business gear and it would be hard to argue RIM hasn’t stepped up its designs significantly. From the looks of things however, not everyone agrees that business phones for certain industries can be as attractive as they are functional. Case in point: Motorola’s new industrial MC5590 and MC5574 handsets. Looking like a cross between a 10-year-old Globalstar GSP-1600 satphone and the Alcatel Lego Phone, the MC55 brothers sport ruggedized cases and just about nothing else worth mentioning. Basically, the only way either of these handsets is going to be desirable is if you like to pretend you’re the boss of a Colombian cartel in an 80s movie. These puppies will drop some time in Q2 and your dreams will be one step closer to a reality.

MotoMania. While I agree with you that Zach doesn’t know what he’s talking about (which isn’t surprising), he does have a link to what you’re posting. You’re letting him make you look like a fanatic.

This article sucks zach obviously knows nothing about an industrial job if he compares an htc touch to this phone. Bring both in the field for 30 minutes and see which one comes back working.

And are people actually thinking this is going to be released? This is marketed for a niche market where a rugged phone is needed, people in that field don’t need 2 megapixel cameras and YouTube video capabilities it’s for a environment where when you drop the phone it won’t shatter the phone into 10 pieces

I bet they’re tough as hell though. Drop if from 6 feet, and beat somebody over the head with it kinda tough.

Before Obamas Phones. Motorola already make Motorola MC Series. Obamas original phones? Obamas phones copy from Motorola and that’s not original phones.

    Zach,

Your comparison of this to a Blackberry is like saying a Catipillar Bulldozer would make a poor choice for a SUV. Is your RIM device rated to be dropped to concrete 1000 times while still functioning? Does it have a barcode scan engine or VOIP Push-to-Talk? (did you really think all that housing was just holding big Razr?) or can you leave it out in the rain all night and still have it work? Just because it has 4 wheels doesn’t mean it’s a car.

You got so worked up over thinking about what witty comparisons you could make you completely failed to understand where these products are actually used by. This isn’t a device you’ll find being used by a Wall street broker. It’s a device you’ll find being used by the Military, police, truck drivers, and hospital workers. If you really want to see ugly google this products nearest competitor, the Intermec CN3. Suddenly you’ll realize your HTC touch has absolutely nothing to do with this class of products and your complete lack of information means you should do some more research.

By the way – if you did do that research you’d know that the Symbol group of Motorola is the industry leader in mobile computing.

I would have expect Zach to admit he was wrong if MotoMania wasn’t such an idiot.

MotoMania, you did realize that just because you yell the loudest it doesn’t make you right. Seriously do Motorola a favor on these blogs and shut up.

These devices are amazing… first of all they aren’t phones, they are rugged mobile computers. they are IP54 sealed. have the best in class laser bar code scanner. rugged drop spec, Wi-Fi bluetooth, amazing accurate GPS, cellular, great display FULL VGA, I use these for my job and I cant say enough about them. as for the looking liek 80’s cell phone, kinda shows that you are a little weak on your knowledge of the current technologies. By the way they are used world side and are not really “Motorola” these were designed by Symbol technologies, inventors of Wi-fi and bar code scanning. you guys really should do some research before you post inflammatory blogs.
