Palm Treo Pro now available from Alltel for $199
Right on time as we predicted, the Palm Treo Pro is now available on Alltel’s website and will set you back $199 with a 2-year contract after a $195 online discount and a $125 mail-in rebate. The one caveat is that the phone is apparently only available in divested markets. If you are a current or prospective Alltel customer and you try to buy from a zip code within a “soon to be acquired by Verizon Wireless” area, you will get re-directed to the Verizon Wireless site. Sorry folks, that’s life. Those of you in the sellable regions however, can get your Pro on right now.

The article is incorrect about availability to only Divested customers. All Alltel customers, Heritage and Divested, are eligible for this device. May not be available online to heritage, but if you go to a store or call in you are able to purchase.

Palm was my first Smartphone…if my carrier didn’t drop them for available phones….( T-Mobile ) I’d still being toting it around with my stylus……way to go Palm!!

And, tomorrow or sooner, we will see another article that Pre is also being released on Alltel (~Verizon) before Sprint! No wonder to me!

this is only for divested markets meaning they will not be VZW customers! do these divested markets continue with the alltel name and company or are they sold off already to some other cdma provider or ?? i mean what happens to all these alltel folgs who will never be vzw customers?

Im with alltel in manhattan Ks and my store is getting them . They ordered a shipment wed and mine should b here next week so im not sure what you guys are talking about. I got a letter from verizion a couple weeks ago about the buyout so im in an area where verizion is taking over and my local alltel store is going to have them in stock
Do you think this will give vzw a clear chance to flash devices that will be passed up even though they have thier Openess
A buddy of mine has that phone and it’s actually on point. It’s a win, not a fail.

Call Alltel right now and ask them to mail you one. Im positive Sales/Customer Service would love to mail you a device.

@panda: At full price they will mail one to an address in Madagascar. The won’t discount and sign you up in the divested.
FYI – there were some markets that were Verizon that did not initially display the device, especially on the East Coast. This device IS available to both the Heritage Alltel and the acquired VZW markets now, but VZW will NOT be flashing these devices for use on their network. The devices will still have Alltel information and applications.
VWZ really missed the boat by not putting the pro on their network after it came out. I switched to sprint after being with VWZ for over 5 years. This is my 5th smart phone and is by far the best one I have ever used. Blows blackberry, and the iphone (usual as a legitimate business tool) away!!
