Toshiba FCC folly aside, new upcoming TM5-E01 handset revealed
Ok, we’re not exactly sure what happened here but someone definitely screwed the pooch when assembling a recent FCC application. We’re guessing someone at Toshiba fell asleep at the wheel when slapping its FCC application together but the bottom line is it looks like we now have preliminary details on another new handset from Toshiba. Despite the fact that the well-covered TG01 is pictured throughout the filing, the documents cover a handset dubbed TM5-E01 — a Windows Mobile clam shell with specs as follows:
- Tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900), UMTS2100 connectivity
- QSD8250 CPU (Snapdragon), 256 MB of RAM, 512MB ROM
- Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS
- Primary display: 3-inch 800 × 480 WVGA touchscreen
- Secondary display: 0.8-inch 96 × 39 black & white OLED LCD
- Camera (unknown resolution)
- Wi-Fi
- aGPS
- Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
- miniUSB
- microSD memory card slot
- Dimensions: 117x 64×19.8mm, 183g
Hmmm. This thing could actually be kind of sexy… A Snapdragon-powered Windows Mobile flip phone. We’ll definitely keep an eye peeled to see how this unfolds.

…..so is that the phone in the pic?
I’m assuming it is but ..it doesn’t look like a flip…thats kind of live though….
even the sticker says EO1 it looks like the GO1 in the picture. confusing…. absolutely
Wouldn’t a clamshell with a 3 inch screen be awfully big when opened?
hmm…. This could be pretty cool. Way interested in seeing more images of the entire product.
Looks like a nice phone. It turns me on almost as much as the NXlabs ad. Ha.
If I’m not mistaken, I’ve looked at those pics, that looks like a touchscreen candybar phone. Not a flipphone.
Maybe the pic is right, its not a clam, and the extra display is on the back to display basic info while on speaker…if it automatically goes to speaker when flipped like touch pro 2. Meh, just a thought.
Can’t wait for the TG01. I’m worried they won’t have the 3G radios for North America specifically the 850 Band. Toshiba, make this for the US right off the bat.
the average Japanese flip has a 3″ screen… coincidentally (or not) with those same dpi specs of 800×480 due to their mobile TV resolution standard.
as for the rest of you commenters, did any of you bother to read the post? the specs listed dont match the photo. duh. the photo is of the TG01… a 4″ screened slate running winmo and powered by snapdragon. the specs they included with their FCC filing was for a clamshell phone… a completely different phone.
lastly, just because it passes thru the FCC doesnt mean it will be released for sale stateside. FCC approval is simply required for operation in the states. many japanese domestic phones are FCC approved for travelers to use but arent sold here. and if you ask me, the specs on the clamshell listed sounds like a toshiba JDM phone that’s just being cleared for use stateside and not for sale… a JDM “worldphone”, if you will.
I dont see this going to a GSM carrier truthfully.
This phone seems like something Verizon would drop especially since it has a 0.8inch internal display which is crappy. Making it just like the Voyager from Verizon.
Why cant they just make it a slider phone with a Snapdragon. I mean that’s a sexy phone that i can say just about anyone will buy considering it has a snapdragon putting up there as one of the fastest touchscreen Windows Mobile phones.
