Alltel to release Palm Treo Pro on the 5th

A little blue bird landed on our window sill this morning to let us in on a little secret – Alltel is all set to launch the Palm Treo Pro this Thursday March 5th. After a $125 rebate, the Treo Pro will set Alltel subscribers back $199 on a 2-year contract. The price isn’t all that bad for a new smartphone, especially considering it has the golden trifecta known as 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS, but when we see an American carrier charge more than a Canadian carrier we do start to panic just a little. Just one word of caution before anyone gets too excited — this might just be for divested customers only. C’est la vie, no?
Thanks, R!

That’s how vzw can get it and the Diamond too
Yet another place-holder product just to keep some kind of bottom-rung market presence.
I dont understand why Sprint doesnt fire these people who test and launch these devices for Sprint. One stupidissue after another with Sprint…Come on Sprint get with it.
Ha, Ha! Ohh my I had to laugh at this one! That is sooo perfect with the Treo Pro with the Sprint symbol hiding behind the Alltel saying hello. I laugh but it is so true and it sucks because Sprint always seems to lag behind everyone. Sprint could be a leader in the wireless industry. It seems as though Sprint is lacking proper leadership to propel them into the lead. Always allowing other carriers to release handsets first. They come out with the Instinct(JUNK) which wasn’t a “wow” phone. Blackberry users like myself are anticipating the Sprint version of the Bold, the new Curve model, flip Pearl. These products all seem to have faded away now that Sprint is going to release the Palm Pre. Looks to be a spectacular phone and I may actually get one. It may be that Sprint doesn’t see the Treo Pro as being in high demand which may be. But there are those users out there who are dedicated to WM and won’t use anything else. Is the Palm Pre going to be a hit? So far it seems to be that way. But there is way too much hype so far and no product to use. Like I want this phone in my hand to see if it is going to be my next phone.
I agree popo341. Sprint has the worst selection of handsets on the market, and they let their competitors lure people away with the latest and the greatest. They have no answer for the iPhone and they hope that the Pre will do the job. I’m not waiting on the Pre, I’ve been wating on the PRO…. and now I’m looking at the Pro as a temp phone as I await the next wave of phones on the horizon like the HTC Touch Pro2.
In order for me to buy the Pro at this point, it will have to be well under $150.00, and that might be a stretch.
That pic is funny because Alltel beat Sprint to the Diamond, Touch Pro and now the Treo Pro
^Verizon/Alltel is good for that. They’re bankable.
Sounds like Palm is setting up a backup carrier for the Pre in case Sprint tanks.
It is likely that a huge chunk of Sprint product support and testing groups were victims of the mass firings.
I would not go near the Pre for the first few months given the keystone cops circus on the Pro.
I love the graphic you all did!
You guys are ridiculous. Sprint has the worst lineup. No, Verizon has the worst lineup. No, Sprint, has the worst. No, …
Give it up. Does it make you feel better about yourself to rant in comments to a blog post? Nobody cares what you think, eh? And nobody really cares to read your whining…
I am not normally a fan of Treos nor do I usually recommend them. However, it is a smart phone that has gps and wifi. This might be an Alltel customer’s last chance to get one of those…
DavidB: you seem to be the only one ranting and whining.
Ha Ha listen to you fool! We are all here to express our thoughts on the blogs that are posted. If you don’t like what we write then just go away! Don’t go away mad, just go away!
As I understand it, with the Pre most software will be web-based which means it won’t sit locally on your handset it will sit in the “cloud” until you call on it. This is all well and fine for the developer, but it means a great many of the applications will come with subscription and not a straight forward purchase. Think about the cost of applications under this system. At least the Pro lets you use software on your phone which you purchase once and the data stays on your device. Also, Palm still hasn’t figured out how they are going to synch you Outlook to the Pre. You will likely need exchange – and that comes with a subscription $$$ This could get very expensive!!
I did read the comment about a crying baby and sipprying sprint. Who thinks no one reads comments.
I would love to buy a Treo Pro for $200.
Love the pic
Hope that means the pre is coming to
Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).
I think the Pre be out til the end of Spring or early Summer. There’s still the question of when the Pro will make it’s American debut
^Thanks for your contribution, Capt Obvious.
Why would one either get into a carrier contract, or pay typical unlocked-phone prices, for a 0.1 OS update when Palm’s WinMo commitment will soon go the way of their commitment to PalmOS? Palm is returning to being a 1-trick pony company.
It’s more than one trick, they have a few tricks they are just for the newer devices
^Same ‘trick’ in different 3rd-party housings doesn’t exactly qualify, kid. Palm is a company that has never stood for anything in particular. They sold the rights to their OS; they used WinMo as a crutch to keep them propped up as well as could be expected during a downward spiral. Next up … the cloud-based OS which is always connected, but never secured. Since virtually all apps developed for it [apps that ultimately matter, anyway] will require subscriptions [VS licenses] as well as the remote storage of one’s personal and/or corporate data without a secure backbone, nothing beyond that 1-trick pony exists within Palm. End of story.
Then again, this blog entry has nothing to do with any of that … now, does it?
Idiot.
Who wants a Palm Treo Pro now when Palm Pre is going to be launched soon?
I wish the Palm Pre was coming to Verizon. Actually, I wish I didn’t have such a fear of touchscreen keyboards. Then I’d probably be happy with the Omnia or Storm.
