Alcatel OT-707 and OT-800 leave us longing for Legos
We never thought we’d see the day when a pair of phones would actually make the Lego Phone we scooped seem interesting, but that day is upon us. Behold the Alcatel OT-707 and OT-800, a pair of entry-level handsets that will do little to up Alcatel’s street cred. Touting design cues from the late 80s and specs from the late 90s (ok fine, 2002ish), this dynamic duo from Alcatel-Lucent won’t be turning any heads — in a good way at least. These handsets have their place in the entry-level market however, though even entry-level phones are typically a bit better endowed than the OT-707 and OT-800 these days. As always however, money talks and these handsets are set to retail at €95 ($120) and €100 ($126) respectively so they’ll surely find a few good homes somewhere. Hit the jump for some more pics and specs.

Who in Hell chose the *yellow fever* and the *midnight blue*? I would kill anyone who even hinted that they would offer me one of those things, Good Lord!
The layout of that keyboard seems pretty familiar.
They must have picked up these design cues (wait for the pun…) from the same guys Motorola did when they created Lime Green Q-9C. Sure offering a phone with a different color can be used to revive a franchised milked for all its worth *cough-razr-cough* but generally when you push something out to the market with factors that draw attention, you atleast want something there to discuss.
“Ooh whats that? oh… whole lot of brightly colored nothing”
The color kills them. It just screams “attention whore”, the “80s are back”, and/or preteen.
@ Peter
I felt the same way. That’s probably because it looks a lot like BlackBerry keyboard but, that’s just my take on it.
Hm, that 707 is vaguely interesting insofar as it has a total lack of buttons… or maybe just what looks like it might be a volume rocker on the side?
Though to be honest I didn’t even know Alcatel-Lucent made cell-phones. (Cell-phone equipment, yes. But the phones themselves, I did not know)
Hm, I actually like them; simple devices that would make sweet accessories (depending on price points, of course). I love the colors! Good devices for teens, people who crave simplicity, or those who like a splash of color.
I too enjoy the simplicity of the devices. And the splash of color isn’t sooo bad. and yes the 80’s are back. at least according to Kanye they are.
The OT-800 looks pretty nice to me (other than the neon yellow paint scheme). The specs are kinda basic, but not everyone needs a Blackberry Bold…so I could see the OT-800 doing pretty well.
I kinda like the neon yellow.
I mean if I were Alcatel I would probably work on getting some more modern yet normal phones before these but as a nice extra phone for the people that don’t need amazing specs but want something unique
I personally would buy this, but I live in the US and have Verizon whose only cool phones are touch screen which I hate
very well priced indeed
I actually really like the Neon Yellow one! My motorcycle is the exact same color, so maybe I’m partial. (08 Kawasaki ZX6R Oh yeah baby!)
I don’t know anything about Alcatel, but if it takes a SIM card and is resonably priced, I’d pick one up. Just wish it had a better camera. Oh, and hopefully it at least runs WinMo (or Android, I can dream, can’t I!?).
I think that yellow is actually called “Urine” yellow…..and “Tampon” Blue….some colors just are silly….no pink for Kurrupt? lol
hello Treo pro knockoff =P
The color gives it the appearance of a phone case.
@Mike M.
Actually the keyboard looks more like the Samsung Jack and Ace, not BlackBerry. Look like someone dumped a box of tic-tacs on the drawing board.
the yellow one look like a 8700g and palm treo pro mix…………next
@ badonadonk
Yeah, you’re right it does ! I felt like the shape and look of the keys was remeniscent of the older BB’s like 7100. But the Samsung Jack is closer to this one.
Alcatel-Lucent does not make these phones. TCL bought out Alcatel’s stake in their joint venture in 2005 and is allowed to continue using the Alcatel brand for these handsets. These are just Chinese junk phones masquerading as French junk phones.
There’s nothign wrong with legos
Are these phones catered for grade school kids?
Decent looking child’s play assortments. Who in the heck chose the color. And I bet you that some dweeb actually convinced about 15 other people in some big management meeting about this. Well, the kids don’t know any better anyways!
I just bought the OT 800 from iwireless for .01 and to me – from videos and actual user reviews – it seems like a blackberry for younger people. I’m in college and I don’t need a BB, this phone and the plan i got with it were great deals for back to school. I’m looking forward to getting it.
its a phone why are u that bothered they’re cheap and they work and guess what!!! you don’t have to get it in yellow, there is a choice and while your all off getting whatever you think is ‘better’ for hell of a lot more money you could go and get a life too!
bye
