Microsoft unveils its vision for the future
At the recent Wharton Business Technology Conference, Steven Elop, president of Microsoft’s business division, unveiled the latest future montage video from Microsoft Office Labs. The video, known simply as 2019, provides a sneak peek at the future according to Microsoft. The widespread use of surface and touchscreen devices coupled with ubiquitous wireless connectivity provides a future worthy of any science fiction novel. It is an interesting watch and will be even more interesting as the future unfolds and we see which of these technologies come to fruition. Hit the jump for the video.

Yay for minority report
Anyone know the name of the song?
How many laid off Microsoft employee salaries could have been paid for the cost of this uninspired video?
Honestly, I don’t take anyone’s view of the future too seriously. It’s much more enlightening to go back and read how wrong people were yesterday predicting today!
anyone can put together a video like this – but what’s the evolutionary path from today to 2019? I bet microsoft goes the way of Tandy Computer before they realize a vision like this.
We will all be dead by than. Probably our grandchildren will get to use these technologies in their life.
ilove!
WOW! That looks crazy!
i love the optimism in these comments! that attitude will definitely achieve something!
Watch MS come out with some of these features in Win7 coupled with a touchscreen computer like a HP touchsmart.
lol minority report definitely comes to mind when seeing this. I love that movie haha.
@creimusc
What would you expect from the majority of BGR posters? You could show them a video of the world in 3019 and it wouldn’t be innovated unless Apple puts its logo all over it!
@Carl
You do understand what a “concept” is, right? Put down your iPhone and check out a car magazine, you’ll see quite a few “concepts” that shape the cars of the future and they won’t look quite the same either.
“In the future, your computer will be a big ass table. . .”
I’m glad to see newspapers still exists in the future.
Why didn’t they just show the movie Minority Report? That’s a lot more substantive than this vaporware from MSFT.
Hell I can dream up some stuff and get a guy with Maya to make a demo for me. It doesn’t mean crap.
Its IDEAS! Pessimists have NEVER contributed anything to society. suckers. How hard is it to be a critique? Now go create something.
@Maikel
“We will all be dead by then”
I really hope to live until 2019… Or are you just being pessimistic about the technology ever being produced?
So far in my life, technology has never ceased to amaze me. Predictions have been off (where is my bleepin’ flying car and computer that understands every word I say), but they things that have actually been made are cool.
At least it looks like at the government won’t be (run) by steve jobs!
I’m a PC!
That’s right I’m a PC!
So you’re telling me after years and millions spent on workstation ergonomics that a two dimensional touch screen is the future?
BS…touchscreens are way poluar right now and certainley have their place….they are not the way awe will interact with all computers.
Great video and great vision.
I am a PC.
I don’t see this coming into fruition for a long time. All of these technologies will gradually come onto the scene, one by one. And after they are developed, it’ll still take time for them to become mainstream/widespread. The time it’ll take for so many different technologies to become so widespread will take ages. I possibly see Microsoft Surface-like technologies being widespread within 8 years. But that’s only one of the technologies… for all of the additional ones pictured it may take 5 years each…
Is video is a joke Microsoft are desperate period.
more like 2050 but okay lol
wow that song got me sleepy
2019? Yeah right, more like 2050. And by that time, who knows if Microsoft will still be around or not. Good video into the future though!
