Umm, had an iPhone,loved the phone-HATED AT&T, dropped calls… Got the N5800 about 2 weeks ago-LOVE IT!!! Once you get used to the resitive touch-this phone can do so much more and faster! Using on t-mobile so lose 3G, but hey, with wi-fi everywhere just use that instead-faster than 3g . Plus the rate plan w/unlimited Data AND TEXT is cheaper, forget the fact that the voice plan is cheaper also! Agian, get over comparing to the iPhone-it is in its own class, but that does not make it 1st class.

Thanks for the unboxing! I was really looking forward to this device too! I guess the resistive screen craps it up though. Also have they updated the way the OS handles access points? I hated how I had to manually select the AP I wanted to use everytime on my E90.

you might want to show us the capabilities this phone has over the iphone. Maybe a demo of one of the following: gps navigation, multi-tasking, a2dp, video recording, copy and paste, video conferencing with it’s additional camera?

you might try making a video when you actually know how to use the phone better. s60 needs some customizations keep the clicks down a bit.. for ex, the internet access selection should be defaulted to use at&t 3g in the browser settings (no prompt that way) Also when clicking a file or item (music, bookmark, video, picture) you’ll need to do a confirmation click or double click to execute the file.

it may not be as straight forward as the iphone, but the 5800 is a more capable device.

What? You would pick the n85 you must have ladies hands lol I have the n95 8gb and n96 so I said what the hell so I got the n85 I gave it to my daughter her hands and that girly phone perfect, but any way I hate the fact that everyone is always comparing the i-phone to all the others didn’t you folks get the memo apple has patent the sh*t out of the whole touch thing so just stop it!!!

@Ankit, sounds like they don’t have 850 overlays up where you are yet, bet they are working on it though, it takes time. Call CS and complain. Never had a failed 3g>2g handoff where i live yet, or places i’ve been (D.C.).

I am a die hard nokia fan. I have never felt that BGR cries about the iPhone. It is a fact that every other person owns an iPhone so it is significant to compare it. And if you recall this was suppose to be an iPhone killer which it didnt turn out to be. Also, I think BGR moreover critisics the iPhone they have never forgot to mention the whole copy/paste situation when they do get a chance.
After all, I am thinking about switching to verizon now I have had it with the dropped calls on ATT everytime 3g/edge switch occurs it drops and that happens so often at my place. Secondly, I am thinking it might save me so much money as I won’t be diving for the high end nokias. I still do want to get the E75 it looks promising. I will wait till they drop the price and use it on a tmo flexpay.

Couple things to keep in mind, guys. One, S60v5 has a lot of places where items need to be tapped twice (once to highlight, once more to select, as seen in this video). And two, resistive works better if you’re using the tip of your finger instead of the pad, making a point to touch it with rather than it registering the slightest touch. I still think the resistive tech sucks, but it’s still manageable.

The real pros of this phone are the size overall and the gorgeous high-res screen. I still have mine (anticipating the OmniaHD) and it’s suitable for the S60 fan looking for touch or the iPhone fan looking to swap some of the eye candy for a bunch of extra software features.

Wow you can totally tell that someone isn’t used to a resistive touch screen. (No offense). You just have to go into it knowing that its NOT an iphone, but that it’s something that functions completely differently. The Touch is waaaaay different. And you have to press, slide, gesture differently as well. It took me about a week to actually “like” and get used to it. This video can surely make people dislike the phone just on the clunky interaction between the user and the device alone.

But judging from the looks of it, it’s the same old semi-slow interface I remember using. Something about turning the same familiar interface into a touchscreen without sprinkling a touch of something new on it doesn’t sit well with me. I do want to grab this device but I might wait for the N97 while enjoying my battery hungry G1

Here is the big question: Has anyone tried to see if VIDEOSHARE from ATT wireless works on the NAM Nokia 5800? I use this feature often. ATT tech support said that it is possible for it to work but will not know until someone tries it. Since it is a feature in the network and not a program in the phone thats why tech support said it is possible to work. If anyone has the answer or if someone that has ATT wireless can you see if the videoshare works. Even if you would like to call me, send me a message and I can give you my telephone number or you can give me your telephone number. The phone I am currently using does videoshare and we can test it out to see if it works. Thank you.

I have held and used the 5800(Euro Version) for almost 2 days. The first day the menu felt a bit uncomfortable. The second day I was super fast with it.
The resistive touch screen is only a tad bit slower than capacitive screens. 5800 touch feels comfortable while commuting and walking.
I even compared it side by side with the Iphone. Pressed both phone’s icons at the same time and 5800 responded faster. Could not test it further cause the Iphone owner got uncomfortablywalked away. It’s weird but the 5800 has a much slower processor. The battery life was great giving it 2 days of moderate use of GPS, Wifi, phone calls and web browsing.
Conclusion: No phone is perfect and every phone has it’s weakness and strengths.

I haven’t played with an N97 yet, but if it is more or less the 5800 + a keyboard (in rough terms) it’s going to be one of the worst phones Nokia has come out with in years.
