AT&T warns Quickfire users about charging ports
Listen up Quickfire owners, AT&T just made a pretty major announcement: Your phone is going to self-destruct in exactly five days! Just kidding, sort of — if you don’t follow the proper procedures for charging your device, it just might. On Monday we broke news of the Quickfire being pulled off shelves and being cut from sales indefinitely without any public statement from AT&T. Now Big Blue is saying there have been reports of significant overheating when the charger is forced or incorrectly inserted into the phone. While there is usually only one way to get a charger in, sometimes phone designs allow for some wiggle room and these bad connectors appear to be the culprit of the Quickfire’s dismissal. If you own a Quickfire and haven’t received a notice already, you’ll soon receive an email and SMS that reads:
Please take special care when charging your Quickfire GTX75 mobile phone. There have been a few reports of significant overheating of the phone when the AC Charger adapter is inserted incorrectly and forced into the phone. The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone. See the diagram below for proper positioning and insertion of the AC Charger adapter into the phone. You should never force the AC Charger adapter into the phone.
This goes without saying but be sure to take note of this to avoid any injuries or serious damage to your phone and property. At least now we know why such a cool little device was suddenly yanked from store shelves and we hope the problem is remedied soon.

people who dont know the right way to plug in a charger should be banned from all cell phones

I guess that’s another reason why Nokias are so popular…their connectors are circular so the direction doesn’t really matter. Still, you gotta wonder how these people even ended up being able to use this phone if they can’t even charge it correctly?!

Um, how about instead of telling people to plug it in the right way, they just tell everyone to bring the piece of junk back for a full refund/exchange, regardless if it’s under 30 days?

The Quickfire was discontinued because of issues with the screen. Customers constantly complained of the screen not being sensitive and freezing. The phone also likes to power itself down on a regular basis.Not to mention the paint wore off the QUICKFIRE keys within a week of use. This phone was junk from the start.
Riley, the screen is actually quite sensitive people just seem to PRESS the screen when all it requires is a very light touch because the screen is heat sensitive not push sensitive. So by pushing it what you’re really doing is breaking it and making it less sensitive.
yeah kinda glad they discontinued this phone, it’s a pos. i have traded in the same quickfire multiple times and has the same touch screen problems >_< looks like i’m getting the eternity!
@ AT&T Rep.. actually i’ve tried to do that and guess what? it doesn’t do anything, people have to put their whole damn finger on the thing which “breaks” the phone? looks like the phone is an epic failure.
I have a quickfire. Yes the touch screen can be kinda slow but i still like it. The people charging it wrong are not stupid. I did not even notice the arrow; it is very hard to see. The problem is that it sticks in both ways easily – one way charges it while the other way causes it to heat up and retain the same charge. My charger for the quickfire broke so I hope the replacement is good.
i really wanted the quickfire when i saw it on a magazine i thought it was different because it wasnt like any touch screen it acually had a keypad! but when i found out about it i as sad…if they ever do fix it i would sure be the first customer! that phone beats the LG Vu..:-)
its not its fault that the creators made an error if they didnt everyone would like that phone ITS NOT TRASH
