HTC Touch Pro2 confirmed for North America, ETA is hazy

As you might recall, when HTC unveiled the Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 during this year’s Mobile World Congress, all HTC would commit to was a Q2 European release. Obviously not wanting to have another Touch HD fiasco on its hands, it was widely speculated that HTC would not be so foolish as to leave North Americans high and dry with another extremely attractive handset this time around. The problem however, was that many were concerned a North American version of the Touch Pro2 would arrive quite some time after its release in Europe. In other words, most people eager to get their hands on the device would have already moved on by the time it actually reached US soil. Fear not, HTC fans; along came HTC’s official Twitter account to explain that “The Touch Pro2 will be broadly available in all major markets, including North America.” But when would this North American release be? Seven minutes later another tweet stated that the Touch Pro2 “Will start to roll it out late Q2.” It’s ambiguous at best, but could we be looking at a near-simultaneous North American/European release?

    Can’t wait to see how AT&T screws it up. The Fuze is cheap piece of junk compared to the Touch Pro. Too much flex in the case and very low quality.

    As a previous owner of the HTC TP, I loathe the current state of WinMo. And HTC’s built quality is pathetic when compared to SE, Nokia and BB.
    I sold my TP, reluctantly went for a Nokia E71 and still had money left from the sale.
    Am now extremely happy with my E71.

    I’ve run Blackberry, Android, Winmo, and I’m still picking WinMo. It certainly has it’s long in the tooth issues, but I still can’t beat it for the amount of software and the community supporting it.

    Blackberry is Email+ and it’s still not that great at Rich email and attachments. Android has promise, but still the new kid on the block with something to prove.

    Just went from a Xv6800 to a Touch Pro, but I may take it back in 30 days if The TP2 release date is near on CDMA.

    I have to wonder though. Since it has the same guts as the TP, could this be one of the last EVDO only devices for Verizon? I expect we might see dual CDMA/LTE devices next year?

    @Larry

    Microsoft and HTC already announced that the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 will be relased with WM 6.1 and upgraded to WM 6.5 once the OS has been released. They are the flagship devices for the WM 6.5 launch.

    AT&T will be the 1st to get this unless it had Android, Sprint will be the 2nd because of the relationship HTC has with previous carriers

    I didn’t upgrade my Kaiser to a Touch Pro because of the 2.8″ screen. I’ve been waiting since the Blue Angel for an HTC device with a big sceen and a qwerty keyboard. The Touch Pro2 is the phone of my dreams. I just hope HTC is smart enough to have it support both the 3G fequencies in the US and Europe with an single unlocked version US (850, 1700, 1900, & 2100). Please no more unlocked 900 & 2100Mhz only models like the HD. It the problem is with Broadcom patents, get Qualcomm to pat up and stop skirting the issue.
