Apple sales numbers down so far this year

According to an analyst over at Piper Jaffray, the God-like company is experiencing a bit of recession-era strife. Analyst Gene Munster has posited that the company’s iPod sales have dropped 14% as compared to the same period of time last year, with Mac computer sales down 6% in relation to last January. Sales drops are never good, but when compared with the state of the market at large, it’s no surprise that Apple hasn’t been able to continue posting positive numbers. That being said, Munster also notes that the MacBook Air was launched last February (not to mention the fact that Steve Jobs was still active as the public face of the company last year), so unless Apple has some impending product refreshes up its sleeve, we might see a similar drop next month. All told there’s nothing terribly shocking here, and certainly nothing to indicate that Apple isn’t well poised to weather the market’s downturn for the foreseeable future. Then again, proof that Apple is indeed fallible when it comes to sales numbers might make some folks question their spiritual standing in this world. We’re just sayin…

Apple is old news and old tech. Closed to the outside and they are dead. Haven’t added anything in months and all the new phones are shown with more. Apple, you better be planning a nice upgrade with Adobe and Sling and things other phones have had all year – cuz you ain’t got nuttin on any of the phones now. NOT ONE THING. With that said, my iPhone does work well. But it’s nothing like a full web experience.

I guess my comment would be prove it.

These are the same guys that constantly get this kind of stuff wrong. This is the same company that constantly beats its and the Streets expectations. Are sales numbers down? I’m sure they are we’re in a freaking recession. Are these percents right. I doubt it.

Even if these numbers are correct, Apple still outperforms PC vendors. So, releative to the industry at large, they are the elite company, largely because they aren’t forced to sell that frozen turd that is Vista. Remember, last year Apple took a full THIRD of all computer revenues. One third. The sad part is that 2/3 of computer revenues still go to support BSODs.

The only news worthy here would have been if Apple sales were actually up. Last time I looked, when people start loosing jobs, people stop buying shit across the board.

This post is totally uninformative, every public company is down compared to last year.

Apple (and other tech co’s) will be facing a larger crisis. Like all new technologies, they get absorbed into the market, hit a peak, and then start to decline.

Apple will need a new product(and not a new iphone/ipod) for 2009 if they want to report any sort of gains.

Apple I-Phones may find some tougher competition this year from Window s Mobile produucts that will be sporting more powerful features and 3.8″ touch screens.

Also, expensive apple laptops will be facing competiton from increasingly powerful netbooks which are the darlings of thrifty customers
