EA Sports Active: EA’s competitor to Wii Fit due on May 19th
Electronic Arts made it known earlier this month that it would be looking to the Nintendo Wii to help propel its lackluster performance of late, and it looks like it picked the perfect place to start. We’re surprised it has taken this long for a company to issue a product that competes with the Wii Fit, as popular as it has been, but EA just made its EA Sports Active title official and slated the release for May 19th. EA Sports Active will guide users through various workouts geared toward cardio and weight loss, and is endorsed by Bob Greene of Oprah fame. The game will not involve the Wii balance board and will instead make use of multiple non-Wii workout accessories that will be used alongside standard Wiimotes. Beyond that, the title will run $60 as opposed to the $90 commanded by Wii Fit — if you can find it at that price — positioning it well amongst Wii-toting fitness buffs. Any takers – or did you just buy a Wii Fit to use the balance board with snowboarding games like we did?

Sweet. palatable exercise for the extremely lazy.
Gawd, our species is in a sad state.
This is good for maintenance and save money at the same time with those tricky gym memberships .
Its not about being lazy either its about having fun while excercising .
thhis is really lame
Those pictures make this seem like it’s going to be pretty clumsy to use. It doesn’t look to appealing to me personally.
No guy ever built any real muscle using wii fit or this. Every1 wants to look like a bodybuilder but no1 wants to lift heavy ass weight.
The Wii. Shovelware to the extreme.
No balance board? The best thing about Wii Fit is the balance board mini games. Especially the long jump. No one actually bought wii fit to work out. The balance board is a lot of fun. So isn’t shawn white snowboarding! Boo EA you can do better. If you are trying to save your shirt by going to the leading console, you need to make a game that people will actually want or at least competes with Nintendo’s already well established line of games.
The reason Wii fit is $90 is because the balance board is $75….. nobody is going to pay $60 for a wii game. Especially one that makes you sweat. I bought my balance board and wii fit from ebay for $150 in september. Now you can get it for $90 at Best Buy.
its to lose weight not to build muscles.
I hear after a few weeks they begin to form a layer of dust…
Newegg has the Wii fit in stock, I bought one last week for MSRP.
Uhm.. believe it or not, many of us DID buy the Wii Fit to work out. Don’t speak for everyone. And it’s ridiculous to say that people who are looking for innovative ways to work out are lazy. Some of us have responsibilities beyond ourselves and don’t have the extra time or money to join a gym. I’ve seen a demo and it looks pretty good, actually. I can’t wait!
As a stay-at-home mom this would be a huge help to me. My options are limited for working out and I need to do something to lose the baby weight. I can’t wait for this to come out…I love my Wii Fit.
