Yahoo’s share of US search market continues to climb while Google actually slides

Wait, what? Is that headline right? Indeed it is folks – if comScore’s January numbers are to be believed at least. The authority on web-watching has just issued its most recent US search engine market share data and jaws around the internet are dropping in rapid succession. Yahoo, continuing an upward trend for the sixth consecutive month, finished the month with 21 percent of the US search market – up from 20.5 percent in December. Google on the other hand, managed to slide a half of a point from December to 63 percent. Recap: Yahoo’s search share is up, Google’s is down, black is white and the Cubs are going to win the World Series this year.

    Apocalypse anyone?

Thats pretty weird and google should feel ashamed since G1’s revolve around google and their searches should’ve went up substantially especially since it uses google for everything. From the most trivial search to comparing prices and whatnot.

What you got to realize is that Yahoo has no where to go but up. They can’t get much worse then they all ready are.

It’s easy to climb the charts and set records when you hold a very low piece of the pie. Let’s not give Yahoo too much credit for this until we see what the new team is really capable of when the Google Machine starts trout-slapping people.

Has anyone used Live Search? I used it once. Terrible results.

Anyway, Buddha hit it on the head. Nowhere for Yahoo to go but up, and nowhere for Google to go but down.

I know why, this is happening. White collar workers are working more hours with less time to surf. Blue collar are loosing there jobs first and use yahoo more then google…just a guess lol

This post was so informative for me for the following reasons:
    1) Didn’t know Google’s share was going down
    2) Didn’t know black IS white
    3) Didn’t know the author is a Cubs fan

@john j – A single percentage point of search marketshare is worth many millions of dollars in ad revenue per month. It very much matters.
