AT&T and Pantech launch dual-sliding Matrix Pro
AT&T and Pantech have officially announced the Matrix Pro this morning and while it won’t knock you out of your seat per se, it definitely fairs well as far as bang for your buck is concerned. As the smartphone successor to the dual-sliding Pantech Matrix, the Pro model maintains the same form factor while adding Windows Mobile 6.1 to the mix for a much more capable result. The design of the handset has also been refined to an extent and the specs have be freshened up a bit. Highlights include an upgrade from dual-band to tri-band 3G for the travelers among us, a 2 megapixel camera, aGPS, threaded SMS, Video Share, stereo Bluetooth, microSDHC support and last but certainly not least, a snazzy mirror finish. In terms of pricing and availability, the Matrix Pro will be available beginning next Tuesday, February 24th, for a respectable $179.99 after $50 mail-in rebate. As an aside, if we see “nation’s fastest 3G network” in one more AT&T press release before the company addresses the 3G network speed and dropped call issues plaguing various regions across the country, we might just lose our cool.

phone looks good. but there are much hotter goods in the works for 2009.
no comments….maybe everyone is at MWC or work??
Phone sucks, user manual said I need domain, user name and password. No support from att nor pantech. It’s a stupi phone. Buy a Nokia. jtbaz7w@gmail.com
Nice looking phone. Reminds me of a Helio(sp) Ocean. I wonder if the video share feature will work on older phones.
Good call on the dropped call and 3G network speed issue.
If only there was a way to get outta the contract using “dropped call” and “always being on EDGE while paying for 3G” as an excuse. AT&T = good devices, horrendous signal.
this is good, this is good. Im exited to see this, it looks like they might also be releasing the propel pro that BGR scooped a while back. YAY!
video calling with no front facing camera?
*Video Share, thanks JtP
@Abhishek,
It’s a good thing you don’t pay extra for 3g. If it’s really a problem, you should have looked at the coverage maps at
I’d hit that, regardless of how thick it is. The dual-slide form factor may be redundant, but it seems so handy…
OMG PPL!!! THIS IS THE PANTECH C820 WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE PANTECH DUO 2!! THERE IS NO DUO 2! I JUST COMPARED IT TO PICS FROM THE FCC WEBSITE! THIS IS THE PANTECH C820!!!!!!!!!
Lollll Helio Ocean knockoff. Way to go, Pantech ! Lovin’ those fresh ideas haha.
@Mike M.,
you do realize pantech makes the helio ocean right? o_0

This looks niiiiice!!!
I do pay extra for 3G. I looked at the coverage map. It said very good coverage for Washington DC and Chicago.
I can count on 2 hands, the number of minutes my phone stays on 3G, before going over to edge. And call drops…aaaaaaaahhhh, that’s something I can rant about all night.
Once again, coverage = very good (theoretically)
Coverage = suckin donkey balls (really)
Get a better phone, never dropped a call in the DC/B-more area. Good thing we have unlocked Nokia devices
The new Duo is nice, its a good device for SMS addicts who also want the ability to tether and get their work e-mails.
If only this had a touchscreen, I’d consider it. I’ve been waiting for a GSM phone with a touchscreen, number keypad AND sliding QWERTY keyboard for a long time.
@ Abhishek no you don’t pay extra for 3g unless you have an Iphone3g, but still you aren’t actually paying more for 3g, because it was subsidized.
I’ve been to D.C. many times, coverage was great, especially with the 850mhz overlays of 3g since fall.
@ paco loco
Yes, I am aware that Pantech makes both of those devices, note the “fresh ideas” comment I made. Isn’t it implied that I already knew this ?
I have this phone and it’s pretty amazing
… great for ppl who want the qwerty keyboard but feel weird without a regular sliding phone lol …and seriously it’s not THAT thick, ppl are just used to the insanely thin phones they hav out now
