Danger Alert: Sidekick 2009 spotted in the wild

Sidekick fans everywhere are drooling, and now there’s a real picture to back up all the rumors and rendered images from just a few weeks ago. If there was any doubt about the legitimacy of this new swivel phone it should certainly be squashed now (still, cross your fingers!). This sweet new device looks exactly like the images we showed you a while back with a darker theme and is a little more contoured than the current Sidekick 2008. Of course, this new Sidekick, currently codenamed “Blade,” is going to be the first to sport 3G connectivity – a major bonus for those who are sick and tired of surfing the Internet at GPRS/EDGE speeds. No official word on pricing or release yet, but we’re guessing it will be Fall 2009 and perhaps just a hair over the cost of a non-3G Sidekick. Of course, we’ll keep you updated as news comes our way.

Thanks, Ed!

Looks like a Sidekick 2 with a black case, and a few lbs shaved off. Nothing really to write home about, except GPS and 3G.

I wish Sidekick/Danger/Hiptop/Sharp – whatever whomever makes this thing would stick with either PLASTIC SHINY – MATTE RUBBER – CIRCLE – SQUARE keys already.. my god… so many revisions!

I wonder is Sharp still manufacturing it and what influence Microsoft will have over the OS. Still looks like a kids toy but I guess that’s just how it’s going to be.

Honestly T-Mobile’s edge is not that bad. I’m actually making this post via my Sidekick 3. I probably won’t be getting the new SK but it is a little tempting.

tisk tisk, why is the SK evolution going backwards? the LX looks better than that junk, and the SK3 looks better than both the LX and 2009.

WE WANT SOMETHING THAT LOOKS SLEEK! NOT LIKE A CHEAP PLASTIC KIDS TOY!

A freaking leapster looks better than that junk!

and the UI doesn’t look like it has changed, and the screen still looks like crap.

    danger sux.

We’ll see when I can actually hold one.

The wild pictures of the original LX didn’t really do it justice. The renders on this make it looks like its going to be slim and pocektable.

I have fond memories of the SK2, the SK3 just killed the experience. It all went downhill from there. They really need to revamp everything; from the design to the screen and to the UI.

How Android would like nice on SK

Does anyone know why there’s a row of numbers up at the top, and yet another set highlighted in gray with the rest of the keys?

What do people see in the sidekick? One of the best keyboards in the mobile industry, great ota syncing, outside of beejive it has the best im service, hardly any lag when cruising around the os, an app store containing a mind numbing number of über useful apps. The whole time I was typing this post my iPhone was kinda lagging… Something I honestly never experienced with my LX

sidekicks were never intented for you business people. It was for the deaf then shifted its focus towards 15-20 year olds who never heard of microsoft exchange or some other confusing service.

The rendered pic looked much better.
Wasn’t going to buy it either way, but the Sidekick world just keeps on crumbling.

Why does sidekick re-release the same phone every year? There is little to no-improvement.. 3G is great and all, but all 3g really means is that your battery is going to go even quicker… the browser still sucks I’m sure

Wow!!! Do people still care for Sidekicks?
It looks so outdated.Danger didn’t keep up with the progress in technology; so now their phones are history. No wonder Fido dropped them from their lineups.

I hate my LX and am not upgrading but cancelling my tmobile data plan. The phone was all right but the fact that i couldnt send a text while sitting in my living room or bed room really isnt fun. Im gunna get the sprint 8830 then the bold or w.e the name sprint gives it when it comes out.

Eh, I was gonna upgrade and I really don’t think I will anymore. It’s like got the buttons and frame of an ‘08 and the flat keys of a Slide. It’s just a mash up with some extra software, hardware upgrades that EVERY phone worth buying already has and shedding a few ounces in the process. I’m writing this from my LX and I feel like this will be the last Sidekick device I ever use haha.

ooookay… a ton of Sidekick bashers… calm down. This phone is for kids, yeah, we all get it. However, for a kids device, you have to admit its kinda nifty. Much better looking than the Quickfire or whatever AT&T came out with. Eh, i like it for what its worth. Not going for it, but can still appreciate it.

Oh here we go with the sidekick is for kids thing. Yes im 20 and I have an LX. The LX is far from a kids phone, there are plenty of other phones that look like they came from fisher price or something. And the Sidekick 3 is crap compared to any of the new sidekicks. The screen alone makes any new sidekick better then the 3.

The bowser hardly sucks, so I don’t know where that’s coming from. I can go on any site and I never have a problem with it. Yes its kinda slow at times but its edge, what do you expect. Lets see, camera works fine, takes pictures that look good so no problem there. Video could use some work but this was the first sidekick with video so there’s a few kinks.

All of our stuff is backed up with Danger so I never have to worry about loosing my information. Plus I can use Dangers Interface online and update my contacts, calender, and notes straight from my computer. I can hook up all my emails straight to my phone. The LX has one of the best keyboards out there (writing this all from my LX), and this keyboard looks like its the same, so that’s a plus. Hmm, what else? There is a shortcut for every part of the phone. I can press the menu + letter and go to any place I want on the phone. The apps could be better but I know mynewsroom app is great for all my rss feeds.

Now with the extra features this is getting, 3G, GPS, higher resolution and who knows what else. Everyone saying this is nothing to even talk about doesn’t know what there talking about.
